What am I doing wrong? I just hit lvl 42 in Ardent Flame. I unlocked Inferno and stuck it on my bar. The skill isn't progressing in experience at all. I activate it and let it do damage and let it kill npcs on it's own and it doesn't go up at all.
As far as I know, you level up class skills by simply having them slotted on your bar, as you perform tasks that grant experience; such as questing or killing enemies around your level. As long as the ability is on your bar, it will level.
That being said, the lower level abilities level much faster than the later ones; so Inferno might take a while. Hang in there though.
I ditched inferno. When you activate it, it kills your magicka recovery to 0/***. In theory, it's an awesome skill, but since it kills your recovery, it becomes lack luster. I have atttempted to stack a bunch of spell cost reduction enchants and it still sucked.
Except I plan to use it in pvp which the upgrade that gives me mana each time a nearby enemy dies.
I would be curious to see how it works out for you. "Nearby" is pretty generalized, and at the rate at which is costs magicka, it could still leave you dry very fast. Running out of resources in PvP is a big deal.
So you know, nearby is 5 meters radius. Pretty much melee range, shorter than talons and impulse. Its only the additional morph info that has the nearby, but the tooltip itself states "targets that die within sea of flames". Only targets that are getting damaged by the skill will give you magicka when they die, outside of that 5 meters you'll get nothing.
Its really not worth the magicka drain and complete loss of magicka regen.
As for the exp gain on the skill, I couldn't say. If you just kill enemies that give exp and complete quests with the skill on your current bar then the exp for it should be going up.
