I've been playing a couple of different sorcerors, and I've found there is a rather dramatic difference between the two.
Telvanni Morgha Kul is a Dunmer sorceror. He is primarily a summoner, but has mixed in some Dark Magic. He uses a Destruction Flame Staff. His skills are:
Destructive Clench (knockback and stun, which is SO valuable)
Velocious Curse
Crystal Blast
Unstable Scamp
Winged Twilight
Storm Atronach
Oerick is a Breton sorceror. His concept was that he would be a pure storm mage, so I focused on lightning skills. He uses a Destruction Lightning Staff. His skills are:
Destructive Clench
Endless Mage's Fury
Liquid Lightning
Entropy or Surge
Magelight or Thundering Presence
I find that this character gets killed a LOT compared to Morgha Kul. The lightning staff clench power doesn't seem to do ANYTHING, where the fire staff knocks back and stuns targets. This alone has made it possible for Morgha Kul to take on many foes that would have otherwise slaughtered him.
The lightning powers seem really, really weak. Mage's Fury does very little damage unless the foe is already weak, and most enemies don't stay in the Liquid Lightning long enough for them to take any real damage. Compare that to Crystal Blast, which does significant damage in an area AND knocks foes down, another soft hold for defense.
Now, while I think there is a disparity between the spell sets, the point here is that the Lightning Staff (and the Ice Staff) simply doesn't measure up to the Flame Staff. It comes down to the Destructive Clench, which is really meant as something defensive.
The Ice Staff at least slows the foes down for a moment, but the Lightning Staff doesn't seem to do anything at all.
What I'm getting at is that there may be a balance issue to examine here. I think the spells could stand a looking over too, but at the moment, my focus is on the staves.
What do you think, is there a problem here, or is it me?
