Crafting Sets

Tavrin_Callas
Does anyone else think that they are now a bit skewed towards the lower requirements?
I.e. The 8 trait sets aren't really that much of an improvement on the 2 trait sets, and some even appear a poorer option.

Using Ashen grip as a direct comparison to Arena, both for 2 items give you the same increase in health. I'd have thought the effort to get to being able to craft Arena gear would have meant it should offer a greater benefit to the character than one that you can get in 2 or 3 days.

I think the higher number of trait sets are all about the 5 pc bonus. It's not about comparing a 2 pc set, but rather what you can get with a full 5 pc set.

There are 5 different sets that will get you the same Max Health boost for a 2 pc set.

I seem to possess the minority opinion that the set bonuses should improve as the number of required traits increases. If a 2 trait set offers a 2 piece bonus of +75 Magicka, then a 3 trait set should offer +80 Magicka for its 2 piece bonus. Without these types of increases, the additional trait requirements become less and less worthwhile.

Then where would you leave dropped sets?

The +MP, +regen, +power, +crit numbers are consistent across all dropped and crafted gear, dependent only on level and quality. The current pattern is the highest number of items (3 or 5) is the major bonus -- the major feature to pick the set -- and the rest are just padding stats.

Now, the 5 piece bonuses for 8-trait should have an edge on the others. Currently, there isn't much of a difference for some of the sets, and others are rather situational (2 of the 7 are for resurrection!?)

Really, adding in some more 5-piece bonuses that are more generally useful (like Spectre's Eye) would go a long ways. This would probably be best done with new sets, as some people might use the current.

    I strongly agree with OP.

i can craft 8 piece but the bonus are so poor its hardly worth it. Hopefully they will add more 8 trait set soon.

As the previous poster said, "This would probably be best done with new sets, as some people might use the current." Changing the current sets would just create more uproar.

I have 8 traits to in many, and so far haven't made any gear that has that in it for any one, its always the other sets im making for people.

its a shame that when taking so long to research you aint rewarded with great crafting gear

If they don't have decent bonuses on the lower end, then nobody would bother with them. having a minor difference at the top end means you can combine two sets and have decent bonuses and a unique look.

The 5 pice bonuses can deffinatly be worth it depending on what you want to do and how.

However, for my vr6 DK that needs both weapon crit and spell crit I opted for Syrabane rings +1 piece and 2x4 set, so no 5 set bonus but spell and weapon crit to see how that is working out and for pve that has this far been great. Thou a bit screwd that I need both weapon and spell crit.

Night Mother has both spell and weapon crit.

I use it with Night's Silence on my NB. 5 NS and 3 or 4 NM depending on weapon load-out.

Agree. Given the time it takes to learn traits, it should be as you say.

I agree with the majority that the 8 piece sets are not worth the effort today. However I assume that in the future things will be changed or added so I continue to research etc.

If nothing else, ZOS should consider crafter only bonuses on 8 trait set pieces as a loyalty reward for its long term customers. Almost two months are needed to complete the research on all eight traits for a single item. If a player is extremely lucky with item collection and very good with time management, they could have 7 pieces with eight traits after two months - a wood weapon, 3 piece HA and 3 piece LA/MA. It would take another two months to obtain that 8th piece (or 9th piece if using a shield). That's a minimum of four months, or slightly less than the amount of time the game has been released.

The number of people right now who can craft an entire 8 trait set is remarkably small. A crafter only gear bonus for an entire 8 trait set would be a very minor way to reward these long term crafters for their dedication and loyalty.

Well this one can make a full set of 8 trait crafted armor and weapons.

But given the current state of affairs - and for a more detailed look on that you might want to check this - you still have better buffs and boni with the lower trait number required gear.

This one put some ideas out on a possible way to improve this as well.
You might want to check it out and/or comment. Feedback is welcome.

I have 8 traits going on my bow and Medium cloth... it takes 24plus days just for that last trait alone, not including the first 7... Why am I doing this? shouldn't I be rewarded somehow? Like others are saying, maybe down the road they will be better and you will be glad you kept it up, instead of waiting. The way I look at it, by doing this research, it isn't taking away time I would need to spend on something else. So it really isn't affecting anything if I do... but if the 8 traits do get better in the future, I will be ready.
