Crafting Stations should have a Job Board tab.

Basically, anybody looking for a crafted item should be able to access any crafting station and create an order.

Buyers submit a request declaring Light/Medium/Heavy, motif, the level, which trait, which item, improvement level, and which custom set, as applicable. As well as how much they're paying for the job.

Crafters can take on the job, only if they meet the skill requirements and have the mats on hand. Can only take on one job at a time, and once they leave the station any unfinished job is open to the next taker.

Obviously if the job requires a custom set, then the crafter would have to be at an appropriate station.

Thoughts?

Oh yes please. I've stood for ages at the stations waiting for a passer-by. Then we will trade pieces each other have yet to research.

A job board would be nice, but made only available to those with 3/3 hirelings so that we receive the item in mail. :)
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's culture. And the Elves.

I like the idea of being able to request a crafted item or take orders for crafting, but I think job ordering would be a bit complicated to code.

I'd be happy with something like the 'LFG' bulletin board sort of list. You can put up a request for crafting, and then anyone can click the request to contact you to make a deal to fill the request.

I like this idea, perhaps with a payment so that when the item is completed, the funds can be paid to the crafter and the item sent to the player that requested it, this would keep a crafter from being stuck with the item that a player no longer wants.
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

Uhm, no. I'd argue most of the point is for crafting for non-crafters. Requiring them to have 3/3 hirelings sort of ruins that.

Anybody should be able to be a buyer. It's basically a mechanic to request goods/services and have a secure method for both parties to complete the transaction. The buyer receives his product in the mail, and the crafter receives his payment in the mail too. Hirelings wouldn't need to be a factor.

Nice idea, yet another way to make up for the lack of an auction house and the ease with which it brings buyers and sellers together...which this game is sorely missing.

That's what I was thinking too. With the added benefit that customers will tend to outbid each other instead of sellers trying to undercut the competition. Which seems to be the biggest reason against a global auction house.
