What's the point of Disintegrate?

This sorcerer skill gives you 5% chance to kill a target which is already near death and only when using storm calling abilities. A 5% chance to kill something that's about to die anyway!who cares?

I could see slight use for this in pvp, could be handy say 1 out of a few hundred times or perhaps when trying to down a boss, as I do recall wiping with boss less than 10%. But that seems like piddly reason to invest in this passive. What am I missing?

I don't play a sorc, so I'm not sure about this, but I'm willing to bet a $1 that if you tried to use this against a boss you would get the message about the boss being too powerful to be effected by the ability.

It's a 10% chance to kill something that is below 25% life. If that something has 4000 hitpoints, then this ability translates to a 10% chance to do 1000 damage.

It triggers from any lightning damage, no matter how small. For example just standing in the middle of a damaged mob swarm with lightning form on will cause some of them to explode.

And the best - it is a passive. Skillpoints are a dime dozen, so putting in just two for the above benefits is a pretty good deal.

Yeah, as someone mentioned it's 10% not 5% currently, so that's something on it's own.

And as to how much damage it does, I'm pretty sure none of you are right. Right now on the pts, the tooltip reads (on a vr12) 'Gives all shock spells an x% chance to instantly disintegrate low Health targets, dealing 1049 shock damage.'

This value went up/down based on my magicka/spell power, and was static regardless of the HP of my target. From this information given, what I suspect is that shock spells just have a flat % chance when targets are below a certain % of HP which is unspecified to deal an additional 1049 shock damage. All the extra wording is what is confusing people, when this is actually a very simple passive.

All there is to it is that it's a passive %proc chance execute instead of an active execute which we are all used to, such as mage's fury, reverse slice, killer's blade, etc.

On a side note, in the PTS %chance to proc value has been changed to 3/6% from 5/10%. Personally, I'm glad of that. It get's a bit annoying getting repeatedly instakilled when below a certain hp even though the enemy didn't have the forethought and timing to actually use an execute ;P But that's a personal quarrel, balance-wise I'm not sure the change was necessary.

Wow, this upcoming change suggests the skill is currently overpowered, not useless like I thought!

I love it when my target disintegrates, gives me a warm fuzzy.

And I hate when I'm disintegrated as tank and I would live for 5 or 15 more seconds... if not that instadead.

To be explicit...it DOES work on bosses. It amounts to free damage during the execute phase, when the smart Sorcerer uses Mage's Fury to execute..which is another version of lightning damage!

It also means that if you are in lightning form amongst a number of low hp targets, you could execute some of them without doing anything :)

wasted skill point doesn't exist in this game... with a tank build, a healer build, a dps build (both AoE for PvP and single target for PvE) 3 crafting maxed and all other with full point on hireling... I still have something like 80 skill point sitting unused -_-'

and as said by others that proc out of every lightning damage (note that this isn't even restricted to the stormcalling line but also lightning damage form a lightning destruction staff skills...)... if you take into account that the the stormcalling line already have 2 skill (lightning form and lightning splash) that deals low damage but with high... and with elemental ring impulse also got a lightning based dot... you get plenty of proc out of them in AoE scenarios (especialy in PvP that become quite dreadfull)... and quite a few sorc also uses lightning form during execution phases of bosses just to increase their chance to proc it... because you know... the 20% hp of a boss is not always that low.... and you get plenty of chance to make this proc work if you hold the form active while spamming mage wrath...

after all is said... this passive is quite powerfull... and the % reduction of 1.3 is all but overkill...
