So...Oil farming with scrolls

Well, We managed a nice rush down south today. We got a nice little farm setup at Faregyl with enemies trying to rush us at the farm - and us killing them a few times. AD seemed to realize we were just playing distraction for an Ash recovery so they left....and we said - well...let's go get the scroll.

We managed to get the scroll out - and up towards the milegate before the slideshow and lots of AE killed our scroll carrier at the milegate.

Then...a real *** DC picks the scroll up - not in our group - and goes into an unbreakable tower with oil pots. We had every intention of running the scroll to a keep and capping it for DC points - and bonuses. This person refused to cap the scroll that they did not work to capture - and instead wanted to just oil farm an unbreakable tower with a scroll inside.

I have to say this exact kind of activity is what makes this game not so fun.

Of course - in the process of running the scroll EP took advantage of the distraction and capped a bunch of our keeps. However, we managed to stop them at Warden from recapping that scroll. But!!!! when we logged back in the scroll got returned to EP...how it got all the way across the map on it's own is just...mind boggling.

Basically - the attitudes of some of the players + a game riddled with bugs and exploits (EP was in the DC starter area while we were running the scroll) is really turning me off. I don't see much point in this game when the only people playing it for PvP don't want to play to win they want to "Farm AP" (I blame the dev's for this because of the way some things work and the devious ways players think) and because there are far too many holes in the system.

If they cannot fix cyrodil as it currently stands I fear the only option will be to go to a BG based system - which is basically just another WoW clone - which if I wanted to play a WoW clone - I would go play WoW....so there's some not so random thoughts for the day.

Agree 100% it amazes me how ones own alliance can turn and grief them, when they are guests on the campaign and only there to farm AP....we work hard to gain standing and points, and yes we dropped the scroll but recovered it only to have random (insert explicative) pick it up and run toward enemy grounds, find a hole and farm AP. the only up side was the random &^%^ was not very good and lost the scroll in short order limiting his "farm"

This is what I call "scroll trolling". I had this problem around start of second month of campaign. The best way to deal with this is to /grief them into either /ignore you or they give up. If you flood their screen with endless messages sometimes can be annoying enough to get what you want... usually over time.


Why? Because if it is a guild organized activity... the guild's members will complain how this one dude in /z or /y is flooding their screen every time they cause problems. It may not save your scroll at the moment but over time can demoralize your trolls off the server.

There should probably be a timer on scrolls -- if stationary too long outside of a keep/ temple, they could explode for enormous damage

There is a timer... after 1 hour they reset to where they started.

Basically they need to add a time limit for when the scroll is not moving. Not the normal return to point of collection, lets say if person with scroll doesn't move out of an tower for five mins they drop it and can't pick it back up or something

That is a bad idea. Reason is sometimes you have to "hide" somewhere before you can run out with the scroll. Else you might get intercepted and loose the scroll..

Yes... and goldspamming is just fine because if I complain about it I am running the poor chinese gold farmer's game experience.


Please... this is a interactive game. SOme types of gameplay are highly disruptive and can destroy the entire balance of a game.

No offense, but I think this is the worst solution I've heard of. The spamming will solve nothing. The person can ignore you or if he communicates with his group in voice chat, he just doesn't have to care.

Without sounding horrible, how do you know he wasn't part of a group that assisted in taking the scroll but arrived later than the rest of his teammates.

Happened to us before when our guild capped a scroll late at night and fancied farming a little with it, our night time raid leader came on not long ago and was running behind, so we let him take the scroll and dropped it for him when he got near (the carrier was NB). We were still the same guild/group, but to the outside it might seem like a random who wasn't anywhere during the capture "stole" the scroll and went farming with it.

I know the odds of the exact scenario unfolding here are pretty slim, but online things often aren't as they seem. But obviously I wasn't there for OP's example, so I can't really put it in context. Maybe these guys were real *** afterall.

Personally our guild would just let the zerg swarm around the stolen scroll, and get another one for ourselves (be it for farming or the leaderboard/bonuses). I know some people can be annoying in MMOs, but they can only really get to you if you let them.

So let bygones be bygones, and stick to your own kind of pvp. Best I can recommend.

Well, I am the OP - and it was my group of 24 that sieged the keep - took the scroll and got it to the milegate at brindle. We were recruiting help and dropping camps all the way for more DC to assist us in getting thru the gate - which we accomplished - however, the guy picked it up when our Scroll Carrier got jacked at the gate.

As I said we survived - and were trying to pick it up - once AD was wiped - but this jack off got it - and ran it south to an indestructible tower for an oil farm.

Well I can agree that these guys probably weren't being very nice, but there is no point in trying to flame them back in zone chat or trying to make it right ( even with he best intentions). Don't get me wrong, my guild has had plenty of "wtf" moments where you really want to rage at someone in the spurn of the moment. However it's very counter productive since it gives a bad impression of your guild/group to the campaign (whether it's fair or not doesn't matter) and rarely does it fixes the issue that triggered it.

I wouldn't even bother reporting them since they didn't do anything wrong, they were just rude but that isn't a crime. Just put them on your guild raid ignore list and carry on with your own brand of pvp. And yes, fundamentally I agree that if you steal the scroll yourself then you get to do what you want with it (as long as it doesn't *** up the whole map) but I don't see anything worth reporting in their (albeit douchy) behaviour. Just a bunch of bads trying to farm AP.

And yes, they must have been pretty crap to not being able to steal a scroll themselves so maybe try to take some satisfaction from that ? ^^

The scroll resets after 1 hour with out being capped.. So, ignore that one guy for an hour, let him farm or what ever and move on...

it is like wow, what do you think cryodil is? Alterac valley , just with more people. any company that comes out with instance pvp and leaves out open world pvp and player housing is stupid.

If someone wants to make PVP by taking the scroll to a base and daring you to come get it, I see nothing saying they can't do that.

You don't even need a scroll to accomplish this. Glade mine is a perfect example of this.

The scroll resets to home after one hour of not being capped. Which basically encourages you to cap it within one hour or you lose the effort of taking it.

It's not about "not wanting pvp", and OP has no problem with people "make PVP". If they want to make it, go ahead and do it, without stealing other's effort.

in case you do not comprehend the thread:

Guild A took the scroll from AD and moved to Brindle.
Guild A dropped the scroll, Guild B picked it up.
Guild B ran the scroll into a weak farming spot and dropped it.
Guild B picked it up again and moved to a church and began farm.
Guild B lost the scroll within minutes.

OP wants to discuss the ethics of B taking A's effort and wasted the alliance's chance to gain advantage.
OP wants ZOS to fix their bugs and exploits to have a smoother experience.
OP wants to discuss the mechanics that could improve the situation, a solution other than turning PVP into WoW's BG.

Easy solution if you don't keep on running you explode and the scroll is returned, and also if you do not keep moving... and reach a keep to put it in within let us say 30-40 minutes.. then -15K score to your campaign alliance. and 50k minus AP to the friendly players within a 100meter radius. or something.... if you DC you will drop it on the ground.. if not picked up within 60 seconds.. it will be returned to where it was taken from.

Get better. Ok, but better than what? I was number 5 on the DC leader board for Wabbajack in the first campaign. I was number 19 on the leader board for the entire campaign. I "make" PvP all the time. I have several different ways of doing this. I would have ZERO problem with a group of DC taking a scroll JUST to setup an oil farm. As long as they did the keep siege, the scroll run to an area where they want to farm it - whatever hey its a game they pay for too.

However, when someone takes it with the intention to bring it to get captured and benefit the alliance - well then the good intentioned and the mal intentioned have an issue am I right?

And let's face some facts about TESO right now. The only people playing seem to care more about farming AP and getting emperor skill line to farm more AP than they do the realm war. So many have either stopped PvP'ing due to the constant bugs and exploits - c'mon - porting to the spawn in point and killing people as they enter cyrodil is somehow OK? Or, having to relog every 5 minutes if you are engaged in heavy combat is OK? Or, having to deal with constant roll backs and map changes that seem completely arbitrary is OK? You know what that leaves for the population? Griefers, AP farmers (people who just want some form of e-peen about being a higher rank than a guy who just started playing.

And what does that say about where this game is heading? Or, rather where the MMO PvP population is heading?


I personally play the game for the realm war. I would like to think I was a big part of DC's main push on Wabbajack to make it a competitive campaign again. But, don't take my word for it....ask others in Wabbajack. The fun a reasonably sane person with a desire to partake in a game like this - well maybe what the system is DESIGNED for - is the realm war. However, the players have taken it into a new direction because of a major flaw - the emperor skill line and how it works. Combined with the bugs and problems this game has had on release?

Yeah - not a bright future in my opinion.
