DC-Bear Haunch?

Wildhunt
Wildhunt
I started provisioning and got a nice blue bear soup recipe. I am level 12 and the recipe makes food a level 10 character can use.

After wandering around the lowest level bear is 22 in Stormhaven. Any other place to get bear haunches?

Random containers, For some reason, some mad hunter out there is killing L22 bears but going back to low level areas and hiding the bear haunches in random containers.

Joking a side, Bear Haunch is classes as a 'primary' so its only available is a small level range, in this case, Daggerfall Covenant T1 (L5-L15) containers (non Vet levels)

If there where bears in that level range, then they would have a chance to drop it, but I am not sure ther are any L5-L15 bears in the Daggerfall covenant. Not sure if they drop in the other factions T1 areas off L5-L15 bears. But the vet versions don't count

Thanks, I have actually looted enough containers to get my provisioning to 50 and have yet to loot a bear haunch.

Lies! There's one bear in Glenumbra. He's there on a semi-regular basis :D. Of course he is a Land Boss :D and you are unlikely to get a bear haunch off him ;)

Provisioning ingredients can be found in appropriately leveled food containers (i.e. sacks/ barrels/ crates). Bear haunches make lvl 10 food. Therefore, you will find bear haunches in the lvl 10 zone for your alliance (Auridon for AD, Glenumbra for DC, Stonefalls for EP).

In addition to coming from containers, meat items do have a creature drop. For bear haunches, it would be bears. However, they do not drop often from these creatures. You're better off just looting the appropriate containers.

This is not just speculation by the way. I have plenty of bear haunches myself.

    This is all false information.

Bear Haunch is a DC only ingredient, so you will never find it in Auridon or Stonefalls, only in Glenumbra (and maybe Stormhaven, since most zones have have 2 tiers of food in containers).

Also, meat items never ever ever ever ever ever ever drop from creatures, and can only be obtained via looting barrels, sacks, crates, backpacks, etc in the appropriate zones.

Actually Nudel is correct. I started finding them mid way through Glenumbra. Not in Daggerfall. Killing bears in Stormhaven will drop bear haunches rarely and killing Sheep will drop mutton flanks.

Absolutely incorrect. Pigs will drop pork, bears will drop haunches, deer drop venison and flanks, and cows can drop beef. It is just very, very, very rare. But they do drop. Stop spreading misinformation, especially as vehemently as this. You are wrong and repeating "never" doesn't make you less wrong, just more foolish.

i really think this ingredient does not drop off bears in DC. I have gotten bear haunches in AD territory in vet lvls but for all my bear kills in stormhaven i have NEVER seen one drop ever

You can think any thing you want. But they drop in DC. Others have gotten them. So just because you have never gotten one, don't say that they don't drop.

All provisioning guides I have read say food items come from containers or hirelings. The few dev posts on this issue say the same thing.I have never met anyone who claimed to have gotten provisioning ingredients from animals. It might be true, but a person or 2 saying they did does not make it true. Basically pics or it didn't happen. :-)
Got a link or anything to indicate they do drop from animals? If so, I will happily retract my statement.
Until then, I think I will trust dev posts over a single claim here.

DC is Dagerfall Covenant, which Glenumbra is a part of, so I am correct.
I did say they only drop in Glenumbra, and probably Stormhaven (which you confirm) he claimed they dropped in every lvl 10 zone. They are in fact in dagerfall, lol.

How can you not know Dagerfall is the faction Glenumbra is in if that is the faction you picked?

Let me clarify. I started finding them midway through Glenumbra. I found none in the "City" of Daggerfall.

Ingredients from other factions can be found where those factions are present. Example Moon Sugar and Aged Meat (AD ingredients) can be found by DC in Glenumbra near the northern coast where the AD are invading.

And yes meat items do drop from creatures. Plump rodent toes can drop from rats. Bear haunches can drop from bears. Venison and liver can drop from deer. Sweetmeats and mutton chops can drop from goats. Capon meats can drop from chickens. Goat bits and Goat meat can drop from goats. Pork can drop from pigs. Beef can drop from cows.

They are not guaranteed drops and have a low-ish chance of dropping. They do actually drop.

Absolutely 100% false. I've leveled provisioning to 50, and in my hunt for ingredients, I've looted plump rodent toes from rats, venison from deer, goat meat from goats, beef from cows, and so on and so forth.

It is highly amusing when posters jump on a thread and argue like they are an expert on a matter which they know nothing about because they read a guide.

Why in the world would anyone lie about something as inconsequential as harvesting meat from animals?

Just yesterday I was killing every sheep I came across in veteran Karnathi's Roost. I killed about thirty sheep and had looted five mutton flank. My real goal was to kill bandits and smugglers for gear but sheep killing is pretty quick.
Well, I had just finished clearing a bandit camp when a guildie desparately cried out for blue lvl 15 food. There I am standing next to the bandit's campfire with five mutton flank in my bag. Boom, happy guildie (Enriched Mutton Pie is one of the few mid level blues I have)
Anyways to the OP, bear haunch is lvl 10 DC and therefore is looted in the barrels of glenumbra. However, the damn rng is more likely to give you shornhelm grains. Endless amounts of shornhelm grains.
I have never gotten bear flank off a bear or mudcrab meat from a mudcrab. Deer drop venison and liver on me, sheep have dropped mutton flanks and sweetmeats on me. I'd say the sheep droprate is around 15%, maybe a little less.

Do you have to be appropriate level for food drops or will they drop for any level as leathers do? Like... can I pound some lvl 40 bears with a v12 or do i need to hunt vet bears?

Never hunted creatures for these mats, but the containers are based on zone level, not your own level.

I have found, very rarely, bear haunches in Bleakrock and Auduron, I have never found a recipe that used them... I got them from Bears (go figure)... normally, it's only on the first bear I kill, but I can't swear to that.

I remember getting venison from deer, but lately after going back with both my VR1 character and my lowlevel (lvl 5-8) characters, the deer never drop anything. I kill every deer I come across for days and I get nothing. Has something changed?

The primary ingredients (http://tamrieljournal.com/eso-provisioning-ingredients/) that drop appear to be a function of your level. I'm in Deshaan with a VR1 character and am looting lvl 40+ primary ingredients and lvl 20 secondary ingredients.

The characters need to be L16-L25 to get Venison. That being said I read recently that there's apparently a bug that is giving issues with Animal drops post-Update3. I'm certainly not getting anything off of animals anymore :(, but I don't consider that proof.
