Name plates?

I've been playing this game a while now, and something that I find increasingly annoying is the lack of name plates above other players' heads. It makes it very confusing in both dungeons and public group endeavours, not to mention that you can't recognise people without seeing their names most of the time. If I have played with someone before, I would at least like to be able to recognise them if I bump into them again, even if they're not on my friends list!

It also gets difficult in roleplay. Without names above peoples' heads, and without chat bubbles, there is no easy way to identify who said what in which part of the room. The only way is to "target" them, which often makes your character turn automatically, and that's not great during roleplay. You want to stay in character, be your character, not have him/her turn this way and that, trying to make sense of what's going on around you.

If name plates were to be implemented, of course it would be best if they could be toggled on and off, so that those who do not want them can still play without them.

Thoughts?

This has been argued over many times already, I do agree with you however. I would like to see names and guild tags. If no guild tags possibly an armor augment like DAOC did with capes....something along those lines. Don't really want a cape but anything to signify the guild on sight.
Just a spoonful of moon sugar helps the medicine go down.

ESO had nameplates in the beta. ZOS took them out because of the complaints from people who did not think it was "Skyrim" enough.

Then there was the silly PvP argument about name plates in Cyrodiil.

The counter argument was just turn them off in Cyrodill, but let us have the option for allies and NPCs in the PvE sections of the world.

    ZOS said no.

Reason: It was not in the feel of a TES game.

ZOS is not in favor of options for players.

That is just absolutely ridiculous. Since when are MMO devs this much against giving their players some options in their games? It's the same thing in Guild Wars 2; lack of choice was one of the reasons I left that game.
