increasing DPS through increasing magika or stamina

Hey all,

We've got a never ending debate in our guild about this and I'm hoping maybe we could get it settled on the forums.

Basically, everyone sort of agrees that if you put attributes into you stamina it increases the dps of your stamina attacks (same thing for magika) even though when you look at your damage stats it doesn't seem to increase at all.

ANYWAY the debate is about whether increasing your attributes though gear and food has the same effect as increasing them through the points you get when you level up below 50.

Question :

Does it matter how you increase your attributes or does the final amount have the same effects irrespective of whether you increased them through points, gear, or food?

Many thanks,

Doesn't matter which source, that debate could have ended in 5 seconds if you 1. wrote down the damage of a magicka / stamina based ability and 2. checked it afterwards after eating food buff and you would have seen an increase.

basic rule to take with you: all class skills are magicka based. everything else besides restoration staff, destruction staff, mages guild, vampirism and undaunted are stamina based.

there are other factors such as getting max ability rank and character level. i've seen very small incremental changes in VR ranks.

Putting attribute points in magicka or stamina is a waste because of the returns are hardly worth it and at veteran you are pretty much required to put all 49 into health in order to survive the hits otherwise you'll be one shotted 99% of the time.

What most people usually do is 49 in health then glyph up their armor for magicka.

I survive just fine with 49 magicka.

I thought I was the only mage guilty of this. :p

1800 hp and about 2200 magicka. hp/mg food buff, 4 armor items with hp enchants. head, chest and legs reserved for magicka (highest rated pieces for stats atm).

Checked but din't see increase either when adding attributes when re setting or when using gear.

I mean you can see an increase in mana regeneration for example, you can see an increase in mana pool, but not in the actual dps

I think placing level up points into a particular stat should have more benefit, maybe not a direct NUMBER but something to show that you character is different from others having had placed those points as they did.

Although point placement can allow to reach hard cap.
