I'd like us to have the option to join with character name instead of account name.

I would really like the following change:

Let us join guilds and friends lists with our character name instead of account name if we so choose.

This should be an option we can choose, not the way it is now with the "one size fits all" approach in which you join friends lists and guilds with all your alts automatically because you are forced to join with your account name. Please give us the choice whether or not we want this.

I really like the idea of joining faction specific guilds, but since I play alts on all factions I either have to set my status as offline and be seen by none or as online and be seen by all. It does not give us the option to have faction specific guilds when we have alts on different factions the way it is currently. At least not the way I like to see it.

This way you can join for example a Dominion only guild with your Dominion alt and never be seen as online when playing alts of different factions who you could join guilds with for those factions.

Also joining with your character name gives the added bonus of really feeling you joined with that character, that Nord alt that joined a Nords only guild for example. Get known within a faction, separated from your alts on different factions, with your character name and not lose part of that the moment you join a guild or friends list.

The online/offline/busy/etc status option is a nice one we already have, but it is account wide which is in my opinion not so nice.

Some may say that this would encourage people to join a guild, empty the guild bank and move on, but the only thing you can do against that now is contact a GM and with this change those GM's would still be able to link the character with the account because of the logs they keep.

P.s. This change is not about the security issue of having half your login open for all to see, although related there have been plenty of topics about that already. Probably about this issue as well, but not seen one in a while. :)

I agree with the OP. I don't know what Zenimax was thinking when they decided it would be okay in an MMO game to not only have half our login details on view to all and sundry but to destroy that "immersive" feeling they wanted us to have by linking all our alts under our account name!

I'm an RPer but doubt I'll be getting into RP mode in ESO because I don't feel my character is anything but a nameless tool to quest/PvP with in the game.

We get the option to create a unique character name but the only time we see these names is by moving our curser over the other players character. Even trying to RP in /say or /e loses any coherence because its our account name that shows up.

    Yea, agree also.

I see some very distasyeful account names because people assumed they were just login names.

    Its funny, hehe

As a guild leader, I disagree.

If given the option it would be account or no invite.

I hate keeping track of alts.
I hate having trouble weeding out that last lesser played alt of the guy I just kicked for being an ***.
I hate being nagged every 20 seconds to invite alt 62 to guild.

Current system? I dont want you, I punt your account. Cant leave alts to troll with. I dont have to keep extensive lists of who belongs to who.

You should have been able to go offline by guild. Multiple guilds was advertised to fix this problem. Instead theyre using it as a poor excuse for a marketplace.

@Sakiri‌ That is why I think it should be an option to choose which way you want it. For guilds like yours you can say people can only join with their account name, roleplay guilds could say only with character name. It's the fact that we do not have a choice in the matter is what I think is wrong here.

I hate being nagged every 20 seconds to invite alt 62 to guild.

Half of this issue was solved already as far back as the good old Ultima Online days: /ignoring a character there affected all alts on that account as well.

Better to let people join by character rather than by account, giving the guildmaster an option to manually invite alts or let players self-join their alts. I might not want all my alts in the guild, after all. Clearly mark all additional characters as being alts of the first one to join (something missing from all MMOs I have played so far). Finally, a ban can simply be applied account-wide.

I seriously don't like seeing my account name there, especially as it is close to my real name.

That last part is your own fault, honestly.

I've learned a loooong time ago to not use your real name for anything but billing information on the internet.

I have 2 internet handles. The one you see on my posts(WoW main) and my primary email address. Neither of which are my real name.

Even though I have probably one of the most common names on the gorram planet.

I would have used it as a character name but some <blank> over on Covenant jacked it before I did. My account name that is.

@NewBlacksmurf‌ Can you explain why you consider not giving players any of the options I mentioned the best way? It's not the best way for me, in fact it prevents me from ever joining a guild in this game. It is not the best way for roleplayers because they prefer their character name to be more important than their account name. I am sure there are many others that don't consider this the best way for various reasons. So why do you think it is the best way(edit: for everybody)?

@others Please as I mentioned in my first post this is not about account security, please stay on topic.

I can see where joining per character would be useful as opposed to per account. Most the time I don't have a use for this, as I do everything on a single character, however in past MMOs I always had my "alone" character. The one I got on when I didn't feel like getting whispers or being social. It didn't have anyone on it's friends list, and wasn't in any guilds.

I can also see where the account bit would be a burden for folks playing alts on every faction, especially since groups are restricted to same faction only.

@Lalai‌ Just a tip, but if you want an "alone" character you can set your status both in all guilds at once and friends list as "offline". They will still see you log on of course before you get the chance to set it to offline, but it helps.

On topic: The multi-faction guilds is one of the main reasons I am asking for this option to be added. That and the fact that I don't like the forced account wide stuff.
