Some actual numbers to think about.

Some of us are wondering how many subscribers ESO has, how many have they lost since launch, and how many do they gain each day, but everyone knows Zenimax is not about to release any numbers to the public. I don't have much to offer except for TwitchTV. If you're a gamer who hasn't heard of Twitch, I don't know where you've been in the last three years. I invite everyone to look at the numbers in this link. You'll be able to see how many people are watching ESO and many other games. The numbers will enlighten you. Please discuss your findings below.

I understand that, but it usually has to do with good PVP or challenging raid content(ESO has neither). Don't think that many people are interested in watching someone grind quest or sneak around for 30 minutes looking for someone to gank? Do they?

Uh, I think that's the point that the OP you are arguing with is trying to make.

ESO is SUPPOSED to have "good PvP," as you put it, among other things. But apparently people aren't watching because it's not living up to expectations.

I was actually agreeing with him, in that ESO is not the type of game people watch on twitch...so it's numbers will represent that.

Don't think it means anything. I used to watch ESO videos and twitch. Now I watch other games not out yet to learn about them. Pretty much ArcheAge at the moment.

If you're a gamer who hasn't heard of Twitch, I don't know where you've been in the last three years.

I've been playing MMO's since DAoC in 2001(and computer games in general since my ZX spectrum days back in , oh, 1994?) and never felt the need to use anything like twitch.

I've heard of Twitch, but I've never bothered to look at it. To say Twitch represents any particular guideline to the level of interest in a game isn't really credible. People used to cite XFire as an indicator of player numbers all the time, which was equally daft as not everyone uses XFire.

I saw a thread recently, maybe on here, where someone said ESO was obviously doomed because some oldish game or other had X number of viewers and ESO only had 136... then someone else pointed out that Wildstar, a hot new title only recently released, only had 77 viewers. :D

What I want to understand is how anyone can take anything from a site such as twitch legitimately. I mean come on. Seriously/ I would not think about the numbers of views this game has on it. For one thing, its only a few months old and for another thing its numbers for more established...and in some cases LEGENDARY titles just don't add up with reality. I'll give you an example. While scrolling through the list of games I came across one certain game which I know due to how much people go on about it, that it will very much absolutely have a TON of footage which is viewed on the internet. This game is one that will in 3 years time, be 20 years old, and is one of the most successful RPGs of ALL time. It had chocobo's, it had a nasty conglomerate organisation hell-bent on world power, it had a snowboarding mini game, a pretty lady in a pink dress and a kick ass Staff and the most annoyingly cool ultimate bad guy of ALL time, as well as a brilliant and some would say ultimately over convoluted story. This is a game probably at least a couple million people have urged to be revisited, recreated and pretty much re-done since I don't know...like 2006 or so. This game if you somehow didn't know [I mean seriously where have you been, under a meteor?] is FF7. Yet according to twitch has only 349 views or something like that...and I get it, that the game is pretty old and maybe some ESO players reading this weren't even born in 1997 but seriously 349 views, for a game that essentially was THE game to own, and has gone on to set the benchmark for others to follow, it was the game of its generation.

I see your point, but it's the best we can do as far as data goes. Also, Wildstar has 13,000+ viewers compared to ESO's 130 right now. Then there's other older MMOs like SWTOR, DCUO, and TERA which all have more viewers.

Man, if you want to know sub numbers of ESO you recomend to compare Twitch viewer numbers? Are you serious? What kind of uber weird idea is that? You even can not interpolate anything here. There is no time line, no user or IP differentiation, no nothing, just viewer numbers of a channel.

Is this thread just a TwitchTV add? Seems so.

[EDIT] I invite you to have a look into this! http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41735/USA/

Guess what N1 is in the US game sales charts?

I get your point. This doesn't correlate directly to sub numbers, but it is something I wouldn't dismiss as irrelevant. It's not an ad. I don't even have a channel. It's just something I found interesting.

Clicked on wildstar to see what it was about. spent most of the time looking at the girl in the tank top. I don't think she was paying much attention to the game either. It looks really dumbed down with arrows pointing you in the direction of the next step of the quest at all time. If you deviate from the course at all it let you know you are going the wrong way. Is this game on rails? I bet if you asked her what the game story is about she wouldn't be able to tell you.

Twitch is for younger gamers. My guess is 15-24 year olds are their biggest viewer segment.

I think the players on eso skew toward the more, umm, mature end of the scale. If you read some of the forum threads back in April, I was surprised to read that didn't know or didn't care much about Youtube. They seem to have no read on the connection between Youtube personalities and gaming. I doubt they know about Twitch.

It's obvious the game is shutting down soon. But they're not going to say it yet because it has to do with money. If anything what they'll do is cut staffing after the console release and let it die out and milk the few remaining subscribers if and only if it can be done. But as far as how well this game is doing as an mmo? I'm going to be nice and say, "Pathetic."

I'm not saying it doesn't have it's charm, but people just aren't wanting to play it.

I have to say I would rather play ESO than watch someone else play it, the only time I've watched twitch is when I want to get an idea on a game (conferences, expos etc), not really as a viewing experience in my top 10.

I think overall if you have time to watch someone play a game then you have time to play a game.

I would also say that you can never get an idea of the amount of people online because of the mega server, multiple servers linked together with only one login, this is really good for players but bad bad bad for twitch players and watchers.

The reason being that players generally want attention (thats why they are streaming) and watchers are usually also playing and trying to be next to their players, this is also known as ghosting.

You physically can't ghost in ESO because you can't search server by server for the player who is streaming, you have to either be a friend or very lucky, which if you imagine is counter intuitive to stalker mentality (which is what a lot of watchers are).

So overall ESO just isn't watcher friendly (but very streamer friendly).

I was watching wow in space yesterday to get a grip around it and noticed they were in the thousends. ESO had higest 87, 56, 13 and so forth down to zero viewers. Too bad, I kinda like watching people fail in trials :)

I used to drop in on Entropy Rising but Erlexx seems to only be playing Smite now.

Just for Twitch clarification, LoL (which is strictly PVP and F2P) has about 80k viewers, which suposedly is about 1/5 of their average daily players. I use this because it is an e-sport which is "fast paced". One game lasts as little as 20 minutes, which means there is a lot more going on than in a title like ESO.

Perhaps playing a game, instead of watching other people speak about a game and play a game?

If you're a gamer, you get your kick out of playing, not talking about playing.
