Black ball effect?

Stupid question of the day: What is this?

I've only recent starting having this thing cast on my that encircles me with a translucent black ball and I'm not sure what it's doing because it doesn't seem to be killing me.

Eclipse, a templar ability.

It makes any damaging spell you cast while it is applied to you reflect back to do damage to your self. You are literally blowing yourself up - good job! :P

There is also an ability that the mage guards in keeps will cast (not the mercs, the static mage guards that are present in all keeps) that appears to have the same or very similar graphical effect. It is a delayed explosion type ability (like the Daedric Curse skill that sorcerers have), it just sits on you for a few seconds and then explodes for very high damage (typically hits me for over 1k dmg, as a V12 with soft capped spell resist).

yup. its the morph of eclipse called unstable core.
