Why are food and drink items very low level in Veteran Zones?

Every time I pick up a cup or bowl off a table in the veteran zones I am getting a low level item. I am V2 and since I am fighting V2 mobs in a V2 zone I should be looting V2 edible items. Why is this not the case?

Because the food drops aren't tuned to VR levels. The only way to get VR food is to buy it from a provisioner or cook it yourself.

Not a peep about fixing this in 1.2 either. Guess they are too busy strategizing the next templar or Nightblade nerf to worry about something as trivial as the loot tables being messed up across half a dozen + veteran zones.

Also would be nice if they looked into purple recipe drops. Saw someone offering 150 K for them last night but no one had any to sell the poor guy.

May also want to tell hireling III's to stop hanging out in bars and start sending us oats and tomatoes more often. All they ever send me is hops 90% of the time. Considering I have 4 hireling III mules and all I got this entire week was 5 oats and 4 tomatoes, something is seriously wrong. I got enough hops to open my own Inn though...

I bought food from merchants until I couldn't stand spending the money anymore. By that point I was VR10. I spent a little over a day leveling provisioning from under 10 to 50. Now I can make much sexier food than the merchants sell for free. If you're willing to spend the skill points, do it. I should mention that I did this before the patch, so I'm not sure how your recipe hunting will go.

This isn't intentional. It is a bug and high time they addressed it.

I do wish that the crates etc, in the VR zones had VR ranked food and drink ingredients (and food and drink). It's a glitch that should be fixed, and it should be consistent with everything else in the VR zones. After all, there are already limiting factor for the rare recipes (the extra ingredients that are uncommon).

I think it's all to do with VR never being tested properly. They tweaked a couple of things and just assumed it would scale nicely.

I've seen people offering 300-500g. But, don't know how successful they are at actually finding someone with oats and tomatoes to spare, considering if you are going to level provisioning that high and invest points in Hireling III you are probably not going to be selling your oats and tomatoes. You certainly won't have enough that you could spare.

I dropped provisioning because I didn't have the inventory space to deal with the mats. I focused primarily on cloth and woodworking. If bag/bank space was not an issue then I would have kept provisioning and I wouldn't have posted this bug on the forums but alas...

I too would love to see this resolved sooner than later. Provisioning buffs are used by well over 50% of the toons I mouse over in towns (syndaar addon shows others buffs). You would think ZoS would have done something about this by now with all of the threads and reports brought up about it.

In all fairness to ZOS, the game is only two months old and this issue was reported as bug on the PTS several months before that. When you have a game with thousands and thousands of bugs in it, crafting bugs take a back seat to other important issues, like improving interior lighting and nerfing anything that receives the slightest of complaints. Evidently it is not important to fix an issue that affects every single Veteran player.

I wont sell tomatoes for less than 2k.
I dont understand why people is willing to pay 3-5k for tempering alloy but a tomato that is just as rare should cost 500g.

Has anyone actually found anyone willing to sell them that cheap? 500g I mean. I never bothered spamming zone chat looking for them honestly, because I didn't think provisioners would ever part with them that cheap. When and IF they ever get a V5 purple recipe they could turn 1 tomato or oat into 2000 to 2500 gold.

That is a big IF though. Finding a purple V5 recipe that is. Since the odds of this happening to you is far greater:

If you could pick super food from random tables, Provisioning would lose all meaning

Granted, I do agree that getting lv 15 food seem a bit shait in VR zones...

I believe his point is the extraordinary measures provisioners have to go through to get the highest tier ingedients keeps the price of food artificially high.
