I was hired to work at a new steel factory

The name of the company was Elder Scrolls Online. I went through all sorts of manuals and safety training. After a few weeks I was told to head out and work on the floor.

Met my new boss and was told where I would be working. Once I was in position he then smiled and said "I hope you enjoy your new job, it's dangerous yet exciting and you're going to be paid well."

He started to walk off but turned around and said "Oh, I almost forgot. Here are your tools you'll need for the job." I grabbed the tools from his hands and looked closely at them. With a strange look on my face I asked him "Wait, these tools are made of paper. How can you expect me to do my job accordingly with such tools? They'll catch on fire!"

He chuckled and said "Well, we're expecting new tools soon. What I handed you is what we have. We should have a new shipment of good solid tools in the next few weeks."

The pay is well but the danger involved due to the tools provided leaves me wondering "I must not be the only person who applied for this position in the last few months." I turned around and saw one of my new co-workers. He gave me a grin and said "Here, you can have my tools."

These tools were made of paper, too. A bit angered I said to him "This isn't going to help me much, you know." He laughed loudly and said "Hey man, these are the new tools, trust me they will suit you fine my friend."

.... you get the picture

... I think you got this part of the story wrong... Let me help you with a re-write

With a strange look on my face I asked him "Wait, these tools are made of heavy metal, with no power assist or ergonomic safety features. How can you expect me to do my job accordingly with such tools? It'll be hard! My arms will get tired! I might get hurt!"

    There, that's more realistic.

What's to understand. It was just a sort of funny story about a place this guy got a job at that uses paper tools for some reason, and happens to have the same name as this game. That coincidental name thing was why he mentioned it in these forums I guess. Weird.

That's because they used all the paper to make the tools.

Nothing left to draw the picture on.

I think it was a critique of the way zenimax handled the release of eso... from the point of view of those who think its still in early beta....

but what do I really know?

What? Where did THAT come from???

I think you're reading WAY too much into what's nothing more than an interesting anecdote.

Where did this take place? It certainly wasn't in the US there aren't any new jobs here. And you are well over 20 years to late for any Steel factory work in the US.

You have a point, but as older employees quit, even in a stressed steel industry, they still need to hire new people.

The paper tools thing, though, makes it much less likely that the ESO steel company is here in the USA. Only a less developed nation, with much less strict safety standards, would ever allow paper tools to be used. I'm thinking Somalia, or maybe Germany.

In Europe, during WW2, an allied soldier ran out of ammo. He crawls to his sergeant/supply man, to find out there are no more rounds for anything, or anyone. But fear not, he said. Just point your rifle at your target, and yell, "BANG!"

Well, the soldier thought this was the stupidest thing he'd ever heard, but he espied an Axis soldier some ways off, and decided to try it. Point, aim, "BANG!" To his utter surprise, the enemy fell in an instant, and did not get back up.

Emboldened, he downed many enemy troops this way. Then he spied a huge, muscular German fellow coming his way. Point, click, "BANG!" The big German did not fall; he kept coming, at a regular but somewhat slow pace. "BANG! BANG!" Nothing worked.

The last thing the ally heard was the German saying "Panzer. Panzer. Panzer." (Tank, tank tank).
