C.O.D system is flawed

foster10189b14_ESO
Today was selling my Daedric Motif when i came across a buyer who claimed he was questing and wouldn't buy it unless I C.O.D the motif to him, and after spamming Gen chat for 2 hours.. i finally just said screw it and agreed.. Well long story short, he never accepted the cod so now its sitting in his mail, along with my 3k gold i lost to send it, and there isnt a thing i can do but wait 30 days!!! Now i understand that was the risk I took and will loose out on my 50k for the selling price, but 30 days..... really Zenimax! Thank you for including the future in the game but fix the time C.O.D's sit in one persons mail box please. I think 3 days is a fair and reasonable time for these trolls or people that are *** bags to slaughter prices.... till I see an updated that changes C.O.D, I will not be selling anything through mail and I would hope others won't either for anything that has good value!

    That is kind of dumb.

There should be an option to "recall" sent mail if its sitting inactive in the sellers box for say maybe 24 hours.

I had this problem in WoW where one jerkwad decided to abuse it and make me wait 30 days to get it back because he thought it was "funny".

    Common practice...
This way he got rid of someone who was selling the very same item then he wants to sell.

Of course he is a moron... there are plenty of people sitting on their motifs because they want to make lots of money and "noone" is willing to pay their prices.
While they are waiting the prices fall as more and more customers finde these motifs by themselfs.

He is still an ass btw... but that´s why you must not COD these kind of items.

TBH this kind of behavior should be reportable.

At the very least a GM should be able to determine whether the user is active or not and actively refusing to send it back. If so he should make them send it back.

To me this is griefing if he just lets it sit there on purpose if hes actively playing the game.

It is reportable. There's no guarantee such a report will be acted upon, but one can report it. I'd consider it griefing as well.

We should be able to set a time limit for any COD email when we send it, as little as 24 hours.

People that can do this kinda thing are worse of than you guys ever will be. Once you take that leap into total immorality and fraud, it's like a slippery slope. Their whole lives are going to end up being ruined due to a seared conscience.

I would invite people like this to look at their local state prison inmate line up on the web. This is the life they are headed toward. No more freedom, no more fun. Just confinement and solitude from the outside world that they decided to take advantage of by exploiting it.

Go ahead and look. Do you want that for yourself? You're going to learn to stop exploiting others for your selfish gains or you will end up there. You are a child if you think otherwise.

I'd consider this griefing too though. Maybe use a guild store? That's what they're there for. I can understand posting a WTS in zone from time to time, but nobody likes the people who just sit there and post every minute. You just seem like a gold seller.

You assume i sit in one zone or on one toon... I also hate people flooding the zone chat but i usually put 3 messages up and move on. And would love to sell at guild store but there are issues with that too.. i would love to be able to search for an item by name but that is a separate issue that is irrelevant to the topic of the C.O.D system being flawed!

Had the same happening to a friend of mine.. he sent a book by COD to a potential customer... just to have the customer blackmail him by telling him.. "you wont get your book back for 30 days unless you pay me 20k".

My friend didnt negotiate with terrorists.. but files a complaint with the gamemasters.

    Result is:

He got his book back.. and the blackmailer got banned from the game for multiple days. (For griefplay I presume)

So dont hesisate. file a complaint. Get your stuff back way sooner than 30 days, and have the griefer banned during the process.

Just want to let you know on player mails the time is 3 days not 30 to get the mail back if you want to check have someone mail you something and look at the upper right hand corner you will get it back in 72 hours

You do not indicate beyond saying "today" for how long you have been waiting for him to accept/pay for the item.

A few things to keep in mind though. 1. Mail can be delayed up to 15 minutes or more. Happens all the time.

    2. It is possible he is in the middle of questing and the money is in his bank. Which means he will not have access to it until he goes to a bank and withdraws the funds to his bag space.

    3. He cannot keep the item and not pay for it. It will be returned to you. If you are desperate for money, go quest or loot chests.

FYI, the prices are dropping really fast on the Racials. I paid 40k for my Daedric, so if you are lucky enough to actually get 50K for it, be very happy.

  • foster10189b14_ESO
Yes i know mail can be delayed and that is why i waited 5 hours to report him with screen shots and post this! And that is the exact reason i reported this because the prices are dropping, he took a potential sale from me at the price now, it isnt about the money.. i dont need it all that much, it is the system i am complaining about here, just read!! I am angry that people can and will do this. I like the recall idea from one person from an earlier post

Did you submit in game /feedback to the Developers?

If not, that should be something you should do as soon as you log in again.

Just don't be nasty about it. It really isn't the Dev's fault that this user has decided to abuse the system, but suggesting that the user to user mail time-out be reduced to 12 or 24 hours, and then a brief explanation regarding why you think that it should be reduced.

If enough people suggest it, there is a strong possibility it might be adjusted in a future update.

Not that this is the case all the time as I can certainly see there are dishonest ppl out there. However, I would caution against automatically reporting anyone who doesn't accept the attachment within 24 hours.

    Example:
I bought some runes from someone in zone chat. We negotiated and agreed upon terms. He/she sent them via COD. I traveled to a player. This is what I normally do to jog the slow mail system. No mail showed up. I tried again. No mail. I traveled again. Still no mail. Though I did receive 2 different mails (a guild store sale and hireling). I relogged. Still no joy.

At this point, I whispered the seller and told him/her that the mail had not shown up after multiple relogs and traveling. In my case, it was just a matter of courtesy to let him/her know that I wasn't ignoring the mail purposely.

It's been 2 days now. I've received several hireling mails, guild store sales, and COD purchases/payments since. I don't have that one. I don't know why.

At this point, either that seller plugged in the wrong name and it sent to someone else OR the mail system is seriously borked.

Seems like a pointless decision to make items sit in the void. Merchants should be able to recall their goods anytime they want if they have not been purchased yet.

My money's on what you've got in bold. I was once trying to send a mail with some crafted set pieces to someone with a user name of @fakename and instead I accidentally sent it to someone with a character name of fakename (not real user names or character names - names are for illustration purposes only). The only reason I know what happened is because the guy I accidentally sent them to was honest and sent them back. I was so pleased with that that I sent him some gold as a thankyou.

You're probably right Ur-Quan. Le sigh...

I tried to whisper the guy today but i guess he was offline. I'll prob send him a mail letting him know it's still not here. Hopefully he gets lucky and the guy he accidentally sent it to either sends it back or accepts the charge and attachments :)

Not really my fault, but I feel kinda bad that it happened even though it wasn't a large purchase by any means.

    No. Go back to WoW!

I don't want this to be a WoW clone!

WoW had a good mailing system and I don't want anything WoW had. If you miss good gaming systems with very few bugs, go back!

I like my crap AH system and no bank space with no guild permissions.

I'm tired of people asking to make this game functional. I like all the bugs. It's like a fun mini game to see what will break next.

ESO is perfect as is. Making you wait 30 days is just ESO giving you a challenge. What, you don't like challenges? Leave!

Im not a big fan of the recall option. But here's why sometime I post wtb, before I log off send it cod next day I accept and poof, They get there gold and everyone's happy. Of course I don't buy motif's either. why pay 50k for something that has the same dps value, *as long as its the same level, AS all the others. Besides Daedric Blows compared to the old school look, Plus I'm cheap.

The ones greifing are the ones charging outlandish prices, so i don't feel sorry for anyone who chooses to COD an item to a stranger. That person has X amount of time to either pay up or its returned, so it doesn't matter if their out grinding to gather the cash or just choosing to halt competition for awhile, you chose to send it so stop whining.

Most COD's are probably accepted within an hour so that should probably be the default. There should also be 2 other options for 1 day and 3 days. Is any more than this necessary? When you sell something you sell at current prices.

You don't want to wait a couple of weeks for the buyer to save up money and then change their mind because prices have gotten cheaper. If prices instead go up then a shorter cod also works in your favor.

Tried the COD thing for the very first time two days ago. Posted what I was selling, and some cat offered me 20K for it. Thought that was an outrageous sum for what I was selling but figured, what the heck.

Send the COD for his offer, and he accused me of trying to cheat him.

You can click on a posted item in chat to see its stats, right?

Sold the same item later to a different cat for much, much less.

I think 3 days is a fair and reasonable time

CODs are set for 3 days so the OP should not have even made this post because in said post he says it should be 3 days WHICH IT ALREADY IS.

A lot of the time the reason a person wants a COD is because they need time to raise the money they offered for it. Think people please before you post nonsense on the forums.

Claiming a system is flawed and then purposing a fix that is exactly the way the system is currently set up is extremely comical, though. Thanks for the laugh.

I assume this is a made up lie seeing as CODs are set for 3 days. Of course this poster could show screenshots of the conversation that occurred between his friend and the blackmailer. What is the famous internet saying? "Pic or it didn't happen". There are reasons why that saying exist and this poster is the prime example. Made up lies. Why is it always a "friend" that these things happen to? I think most lies begin with "This happened to a friend", lol.

Of course people caught in lies usually make return remarks like. "I don't need to prove anything to you" or "If you don't believe me, I don't care". However the complete opposite needs to be true. You should have to support such claims or DON'T MAKE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Most likely however he'll go with the old argument of "You must be one of these scammers".

CODs are 3 days not 30 days remember that next time you try to lie about a scammer telling a friend they are going to do the impossible by holding the COD for 30days. There are enough lies spreading through these forums without these easily debunked ones existing.

Guess our modern society has become a bit too comfortable with credit, to the point it extends to trying to purchase things you can't readily afford even in-game.
