Why is the Covenant using Necromancers?

I just got to V1 and started the next faction area. Why are Covenant forces using Necromancy and other dark magic when a significant portion of doing their quests involve opposing necromancy? i.e. Faolchu, Angof, etc.

Dominion forces and Pact forces didn't seem to specialize in necromancy when doing Covenant quests. They were heavy magic/sorc and fighters in general. So why does Emeric seem to be ok with his forces using undead when you play other faction quests?

    ????? This confused me too. The Bleakrock incident was sorta justified with a note condemning the necromancer as a renegade, but otherwise I'm unsure.

    I may not have been paying close enough attention, but the necromancy plot going on at Fort Virak just felt weird. I can't imagine Necromancy being a sustainable tactic in the Covenant, especially given how strongly Redguard culture condemns association with the undead.

    Because the game is braindead and can't think properly.

    But, keep playing, you will see, High elves are pretty good at lich magic too.

    I would expect Pact and Dominion people to be more in line with using necromancy than the mostly human Covenant. Dark Elves have their Ancestor worship, which includes their ghost wall.
    I don't think much of High Elf culture involves dead people much, but in general elves seem to be more in tune with the dead/messing with their ancestors in the form of ghosts, skeletons, etc.

    The Covenant seems to have sent their wildcards to take out the Pact, with no supervision or accountability. An awful lot of them are Worm Cultists or necromancers. Double agents for Molag Bal, perhaps?

    Neither Altmer nor Dunmer practice necromancy as a culture. Ancestor worship is a very different thing (and they'd be quite offended to hear you compare the two.)

    Human mages have always been the most willing to experiment with necromancy (perhaps for the very reason that they do not venerate their ancestors in the same way.)

    It was in fact legal for much of the Empire's history.

    Actually, I think a lot of the commanders and influential people in the invasion forces of the three factions are really agents of Molag Bal. I feel like a lot of the animosity between the factions is a direct result of the various schemes of the God of Schemes - what better way to keep the factions at each others' throats than to send agents representing one faction into the territory of another faction in order to commit atrocities? Do the (mostly) well-meaning leaders of the factions really have any idea what their forces are doing while they're outside their own territory?

    Agreed. I think if the leaders found out what their generals were doing, they would be relieved of duty post-haste.

    I'm sure that Serien at Fort Virak was just desperate and used necromancy as a last resort. After all, he was completely surrounded and any reinforcements from Conelle's army had been wiped out at Vivec's Antlers.

    I highly doubt Emeric would have approved. Same for Ayrenn approving of what Ruuvitar did at the Hatching Pools, no way she would have approved of murdering unborn children... I hope.

    Have you also noticed that the Pact uses prostitutes? I noticed at least two in Jorunn's stand. Ihave also fought enemies called Pact Necromancers.

    In battle?!? I would imagine they might have some good techniques for fighting unarmed/unarmoured men, but I wouldn't think they'd be that effective on the battlefield... :p

    Well... don't believe everything you "read". I expect that we don't really know the names or titles of the enemy spell slingers. Look through history, and most of the cultures called their enemies "evil" and labeled the deities of their enemies as "evil". ES, and especially Morrowind was very good at walking the line of obscure and malevolent without slinging around the E word.

    Zeni ... .apparently not so skilled with that. So no, I don't think that any given alliance actually uses necromancy, lichdom or whatever. It's just what "we" are told they are doing.

    The higher ups would never lie to us .... right?
    Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
    Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
    Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
    Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

    Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
    House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
    Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    There actually are quite a few Pact Necromancers. You even encounter them on Auridon in the Dominion. And while I havn't played through all the factions, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some particularly nasty Dominion mages and soldiers raising hell (or the dead) here and there. Especially the Altmer since they have some extremely bad people in their ranks.

    Mostly though, I think it's just that each faction is willing to use whatever tool is at their disposal, so long as it isn't within their own borders. I mean, my main character is a vampire siphon-nightblade mage. He's basically a necromancer or blood mage. The factions don't really seem to care how their champions get the job done.

    I wouldn't be surprised if each faction had divisions of 'unconventional' forces that were deployed abroad. I also think it's pretty likely Molag Bal has agents everywhere in the various faction's armies, pushing them towards conflict and atrocity. In fact, I kind of think that is the 'reason' we have the whole cadwell's silver/gold thing. Or at least, that's what they meant by the quest text. It's to see the influence of the daedra poisoning each faction.

    I don't remember coming across Pact invaders much at all actually. You have the Dominion invading the Covenant, the Covenant invading the Dominion, both of those invading the Pact, but I think there's a severe lack of Pact invading Dominion/Covenant territory. Whereabouts in Auridon are these Pact invaders? Are there any anywhere else?

    every faction has necromancers. Magic is a tool, there is no inherent morality in any form of magic, its in how you use it
