Jewelcrafting Profession for ESO

JEWELCRAFTING
Like the name suggests, this profession allows players to create beautiful jewelry within ESO. As with other crafting professions, it is necessary to extract raw materials into craftable ingredients. Gemstones are required and are extracted from ore. Ten ore of the same type are consumed per prospecting attempt in an attempt to extract 1-5 gemstones. This will destroy the ore in the process. The Prospecting passive will improve your chance of extracting gemstones. You will also require precious metal (copper, silver, gold, and platinum) to construct the base item, such as: crowns, rings, and necklaces. The constructed base item will have 1-3 sockets for gemstones, depending on player skill level.

There are seven levels of gemstone quality, namely Normal, Fine, Flawless, Perfect, Radiant, Illustrious, and Exquisite. Gemstones bought from vendors will always be of Normal quality. Quality can be increased with polishing. Polishing is synonymous with Tempers from Blacksmithing. The Polishing Expertise passive will increase your chance of improving items with polishing. Gemstone Cuts are synonymous with Traits, whereby adding special properties to the crafted item. Players will learn Gemstone Cuts via Jewelcrafting Recipes, which can be found throughout the world of Tamriel (highest level recipes will be dropped from bosses). There is a wide assortment of recipes and have various levels of rarity, namely Fine, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. The Jeweler Design passive will allow the use of said recipes. Here is a possible layout...

Craft:
Jewelcrafting Station (consists of a grinding wheel, calipers, chisels, and hammers)

Base Item (equipment slot):
Crown (head)
Ring (finger)
Necklace (neck)

Example of a beautiful crown;

Would be nice, certainly, but ZoS has a lot of more important stuff on their plate right now. Once the bugs are corrected, and gameplay is stable and balanced, then will be the time to introduce new things, including something like Jewelcrafting :)
Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

    Definitely yes.
Can't understand why this wasn't in the game from the start. They said they wanted crafting to be a major part of this game and then make it so out of the 10 items you wear 3 of which you cannot craft yourself?
    WT....

    :/

Something similar should have been in since the planning stages of the crafting system.

It's simple, they want some things to add in at a later time to keep people interested.

If no one in Tamriel can craft jewelry, where does it come from? lol

I imagine it was left out by design. It will most likely be added in an expansion or patch. So far, jewelry can be enchanted, but they don't have the same kind of trait system as armors.

What does lore have to do with it? It's a game mechanic, not a change in history or storyline.

It's a bit skillpoint heavy the way you've set it up, 23 skillpoints needed, and only the hirelings would be optional.

I would rejigg the stonesetting side, and give some other aspect to invest in, otherwise it's an all or nothing skill.

This was originally planned by Z/B for inclusion into the game, but the rush to push ESO out the door caused it to be canned. Thank you for Beta Testing Elder Scrolls Online for the upcoming Console release.

It sounds like one of those nice things they purposefully kept out to have in their back pocket for an expansion.

I would like a farming option too.

This seems to much like EQ, I would like them to add it but using nodes already in game, we already have too many items in drawers to add another 40+ items that can drop in there.

Jewelcrafting would only require a handful of new ore nodes, such as:

    Copper Ore
    Silver Ore
    Gold Ore
    Platinum Ore

Oh I see that now with the gems coming from already found in game gems.

Blacksmithing already has like what 14 armor-weapon traits same with clothing and woodworking has like 6. I'd either give it to woodworking or enchanting. Be nice if it was separate from the others but I think the time to learn traits should be sped up by 50% if its just 2-3 items. That or give the player the ability to learn more than 1 trait per item at a time. I'm loaded with armor-weapons for blacksmithing and clothing on MC and alts and its getting ridiculous to find space to put stuff I pick up anywhere. Like if I learn all traits on one item then that should let me learn 3 traits on a item type at a time. That would speed things up so that I can start melting stuff down and making space.

    @ the OP

Very nice write-up. While i personally would be all for it(though as has been said i think, seems just a tad heavy on the skillpoint investiture front) i think there is a simpler solution. Just add a tab onto the Blacksmithing station interface.

Since beta i always felt it odd that Blacksmithing was the only one of the 'gear' crafts that didn't have a real secondary item-type that it covered. Woodworking has wooden weapons and shields, Clothing covers Light and Medium armor sets; while Blacksmithing just does metal stuff. Just makes a certain sense, to me anyways, to have all this metal jewelry with all the other metalwork.

I would absolutely love to see jewelcrafting added to the list of crafting professions.

I really loathe just selling off all my old rings/necklaces. I'd save them for future jewelcrafting (that I'm almost certain we'll see eventually), but bank/inventory space is so low right now that it's unwieldy to save all those bits of jewelry on top of everything else.

As someone else mentioned, farming could also be fun. It'd be a nice companion to provisioning and player housing (should we see this in the future as we hope to). I'd also like to see fishing be implemented properly--maybe not as a "profession" (the way the game has them set up with costing skillpoints and whatnot...which is fine for the crafting professions, but I dunno 'bout fishing or farming) but still as a useful skill--it should also be a companion to provisioning.

Most ridiculous comment in the thread... I hope you're all over the threads where Vamps are a pillar of the community providing their curse to the needy and how Cyrodiil looks pre-Talos.

Not sure, as jewelry is as much about the enchant you put on it as the item itself, so I'm not sure it should be an independent skill line.

I think we got spoiled in TES IV: Skyrim because you can craft jewelry there.

However we don't need new ore lines, the current ones should easily suffice as it gives you more uses to burn through it instead of just vendoring stack after stack or trying to find a buyer for it.

Speaking from my 15 years of MMORPG gaming experience, most amazing ideas like this are never implemented. We are lucky to even see semi-hot issues addressed, let alone an entire new system. Quite unfortunate, yes, but until a game like EQN comes out, don't hold your breath, man!

My guess is, jewelcrafting will be added to enchanting. It's a pain in the bum to xp and would make that line more easily to achieve. Also I wouldn't have to respec to still have all crafters on my main char ;)
