I'm honestly curious if they have changed this at some point to warrant the need for a guide. I have done it three times and did not think a guide would be needed for it.

That fight was insanely difficult for me. The only reason I won was she glitched and didn't come after me. All the other fights she got right in my face where it was hard to dodge the pronged attack she sends out

Interesting, fair enough. Sorry to hear it gave you trouble and props for the initiative on making the guide.

It gives a *lot* of people grief. She hits like a farking truck.

I have a friend that can't kill her at 43, says he won't go back until 50, and I have a feeling he's going to rage quit when he gets to the bugged Valley of Blades. :/

I've made videos of my various characters going through these fights, including doing the Will of the Council fight at level 35.

Irazur took almost 5 minutes, was laggy, buggy, but still doable. barely.

Last one was buggy as crap too. She teleported all over the bloody place.
Killing Aelif after she transformed. I have a video of that as well, and it was *really* terrible. Porting into weird spots, vanishing, etc.

Not me. My main, now 38 can't do this, despite several tries. It's not like I can ask a couple of guildies to help, as these main quests are solo instanced and so insanely hard. Some balancing is needed for sure.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

What worked for me was pushing her up a wall. Really. Knock back was my friend: got her to about head-height on a wall and suddenly it was like her healing orbs couldn't find her anymore & she went down fairly quickly after that to a mix of pet & basic spammed attacks. (Of course I had died about 6 times before the occasion on which I drove her up the wall occurred, and that specific fight had gone on a while before I got her away from the middle of the room.)

This is actually the first one I've played that doesn't allow it for mandatory content.

I hear TSW is the same way, but I never had interest in that game so I haven't bothered.

I am level 39 and faced her for the first time. The fight went on for minutes as I didn't realize what her healing orbs were doing until I was out of Magicka/Stamina.

Once I figured that out, it went easier, but still took a long time. Lyris was useless for me.

Final Fantasy 14 ARR is another MMO that has a freaking ton of main story quests like this where you are forced to solo them. Some of them were borderline to brutal for certain jobs. Its a very odd design decision.

Never played that one either, but to be fair I'm not a final fantasy fan.

I do think it's an odd decision, and while I don't mind solo per se, I *do* mind "difficult" solo.

Solo storylines aren't bad when you can faceroll them.

Okay so here is how ridiculous this fight is. I took on this fight 10 levels over. Died 6 times before beating her.

By comparison, I just fought mannimarco at 10 levels over...The fight took about 5 minutes tops and my health dropped below half once.

My point? The Lyris Doppelganger was the hardest main quest boss. Harder than the fricken king of worms. Its a broken fight

I have done this on 4 characters now, I never had an issue. Seemed like a typical mini-boss. The only boss I think is challenging is Mannimarco if you do not have a means of self healing. I guess a guide is good for people who need it.

    No need to be arrogant.

You can't block anything on the harvester phase. The issue I had when I fought her was I could not keep range on her, and as a nightblade that was not a good thing. The problem I had was she didn't really behave like a normal harvester which tend be mostly stationary while hitting you at range. The difference is she was constantly moving, most of the time trying to stay in my face which made it very hard to dodge the waves she sends out. if you get hit by one of those you are borked.

Not being arrogant. It was ridiculously easy. Block, knockdown, go to town, rinse repeat. Harvesters don't scar me anymore, simply dodge waves and prevent healing and they go down super fast. My main is a NB as well and I think I was using swallow, crippling, draining shot for that fight.

@Sakiri, this is mostly for you, but also for anyone it will help. (Thanks for taking the time to post a guide, btw. If you're frustrated with, chances are, someone else is too)

For reference, did this one around level 33? (Only because I had been doing other quests and hadn't made it back the main yet)

    Uh...you had a friend along...Abnur Tharn...

And, while the solo's can initially be difficult (usually leading to different skill bar setups or tactics), bear in mind that even in a group, you can find yourself in a solo situation... It doesn't always matter that you have 1-3 other people to help you when 5 NPC's decide they really like you right about now.

First, the different news: (I'm not going to call this bad news because you'll get there and you'll get through it!)

(If you didn't like this one, you're really not going to dig the one that comes next...)

    Now, the good news:

    A handful of points:
    • You've gotta stay mobile...use your dodges and general motion to make them chase you (kite). (I realize with terrain this is sometimes easier said than done.) (Try not to corner yourself, if at all possible, and if you do, get out as quickly as you can, or ready your soul gem...)
    • If you can manage to get the enemy hung up on the terrain, even a little bit, do so. Distance = time = life in many instances.
    • If they sent an NPC in to help whoop something, use it to your advantage... Said NPC won't die, but will cower after taking so many hits (look around the 15 second mark in the video). If you can throw a heal their way, they'll snap out of it and get back in the game sooner.
    • Any enemy that uses the healing orbs, try to get them as far away from the edges of the area as possible...this will give you more time to try to take out the orbs and less chance of enemy insta-heal. (It started with (the pre-nerf) Doshia and it just goes on from there)
    • Use your provisioning, use your enchants/armor swaps, and use your Quickslot items... There are cooldowns...if you know you're going to continue firing off skills/spells, don't wait until your bar is out... Down that potion at the 1/3 mark...then when you would normally consume it, it's already halfway through the cooldown.
    • Use your Quickslot items... I say this again, because people get stuck on the idea that you only have one quickslot item... If what you currently have quick-equipped isn't doing what you need it to, run away, hold your Q and quickly mouse to the item you need...then activate it. You may get thumped in the meantime until you get used to doing this, but you don't have to wait until you die to change it and you aren't limited to the single item that way. (Cooldowns still apply though), And don't forget to switch back, if applicable.
    • Down a lower level potion before the fight starts... We all end up with these, right? I know your bars are already maxed out...but when you do it this way, guess what? You're already regenning before the bartender has even asked for your drink order! Every little bit helps...and you weren't using the lower level potions anyway, right?
    • Expect to bite the dust the first time through... Well, sometimes... The Dev's have done well to make bosses and scenarios a little different from each other, so while this one may suck...don't beat yourself up too bad if you wind up eating dirt the first run through. Learn the scenario, switch things up, prevail!

They can be done...practice these things with the mobs that won't hurt as bad. When you can get used to these things with 3-4 enemies on your tail, taking on one will become much simpler.

You'll get better at changing tactics on the fly and you'll find yourself taking fewer hits, dying less (or not at all ~ yeah!) and making it through!

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

I did have one fight I did not win, but I pulled her to back room and let those spikes hit her a few times.

Devs should allow a way for players to keep her from healing somehow, like what was stated earlier regarding backing her in a corner or something to keep those orbs away from her. She should have a weakness to exploit. As it is, she has every advantage over players. Rapid mulitple hits, paralysis and her immunity to knock down (at least from what I can tell). I fought her as a DK35 and gave up in total frustration because she completly healed and fresh as a daisy. Her healing should have limitations, mine certainly does. I don't mind working for a victory, in fact I enjoy the challenge but when you have to raise your abilites so high in order to defeat her that now you can walk up to anyone else and wipe them out in one swipe, there is a bit of an imbalance in the game. My point being that you shouldn't have to "hulk-out" to beat her, but should also be able to use smart tactics in order to attain a victory.

This is the same type of fight you have against Dosha (sp?) in the level 12 Fighter's Guild quest in Stonefalls, and the final boss in Banished Cells. Its just a matter of either being a good shot with the healing orbs, or having good AOE damage.

So far I've 1 shot her on sorc tank, Templar tank, dk mage, and nb 2hander builds. Just gotta be quick with the orbs, the 'arena' you fight her in is big enough to make sure they spawn at max radius from her.
