I leveled my NB up specifically to try out this skill. I like it and I think it is probably central to many NB builds, especially tanks of course. I downloaded a combat log addon to see exactly what it was doing and play-tested it a bit and this post is the result.
Bug:
When dual-wielding, offhand attacks don't activate the stam/mag/hp(if leeching) gain.
I was really hoping to dual-wield with this, but instead I'm stuck with sword and board.
Bug?:
Leeching strikes only heals 2% of max hp. (I have read some people say 2.4%, but perhaps they were not counting up their +heal% correctly). If it is intentionally at half strength to stop NBs from having too much hp gain, I can understand, but they should update the tooltip. I leveled my NB because the tooltip says I can get 4% hp per hit. And 4% is an exciting amount for someone who likes to tank.
Suggestion:
This skill removes the desire to heavy attack, since that means less hits (except with lightning staff) and therefor less stam/mag/(hp) gain. This means I don't exploit off-balance enemies when given the chance. It just isn't efficient.
I would suggest that this skill provided a greater gain on heavy attacks. My guess is that around 150% of the current gain would be a fair amount.
The nitty-gritty:
The side effect of this is that resto/lightning staff builds would get a buff. This is due to their heavy attacks already being a viable option (resto gains 10% mana + 4% from SS on heavy and lighting hits twice for 8%). The lightning staff buff could be lessened by making the bonus only apply to the final hit.
But then, I hear NBs could do with a buff anyway.
So tell me what you think. Or share your complaints if you're likewise riled up about SS. I still wanna be able to use it with DW one day.
