Flaming Oil

Ill make another post about it.

Something has to be done with flaming oil. When you have someone just dropping an oil pot in front of a door, not above it in front of it, and wrecking anyone who comes close, that's a problem.

Yesterday a few of us were chasing a single DC into one of those closed gates that divide some of the landscape. He actually cornered himself on purpose as five of us were ready to pounce him. He drops one flaming oil pot and activates it. We burn to death he wanders off and escapes.

We need some changes on how the flaming oil works. Only things I can think of is having designated places oil can be deployed. On castle walls, over grates, etc etc. Not directly on the ground and poured out in front of you.

Other idea is to have flaming oil also hurt the user if they decide not to use it properly. I can still see people suicide using oil pots with this method. the mentality of "if I'm gonna die, I'm taking you with me!". Well thats my mentality! :)

Has there or can we get some sort of acknowledgement that this has posed an issue with Cyrodil PvP by anyone? If this has been address can someone link me and show me that this issue has been addressed by someone?

Well, oil pots at the moment are wonderfully bugged as they also go up walls. No joke.

I sorry but your example here makes it look like the player was using his nounce to great effect, and your group got wiped by someone using everything in their arsenal to great effect.

Post like this are what get abilities nefred for no good reason,

If your examples included mass usage by more than one player, against sizable numbers then yes, I would tend to agree that such an ability should be nefted.

But the fact remains, if you did not charge in/and or expected the oil to be there you would be the ones left standing irregardless of the bugs currently plaguing the oil.

I do feel like oil is a bit silly, especially when just popping multiple oils on the ground floor in a building that you must zone into.

Did they even fix the oil so it cannot be dropped UP a cliff?

That said, I do like the fact that oil can be dropped anywhere, unlike DAoC. But I do agree there should be some limitation, and the oil has to actually be DROPPED, not just dumped on your feet. Even going down stairs is fine.

because I do not use obvious exploits.

    Yes, flaming oil is bugged.

In this case, your opponent executed superior tactics. Learn from it and move on.

I have thought about this as well. I think the player should purchase the oil, but not the pot. Have the pots set up in predesignated areas in which the player can place his oil in. By having predesignated locations they can control the outcome of the pour so that it applies where it should rather than where it should not such as through floors, ontop of itself, up walls etc.

It's not superior tactics to exploit something that is obviously a stupid design flaw. Oil pots are to be used to pour down off a wall not to just spill infront of you, especially in a closed off area because you would get burned by the oil when it moves back onto you. It needs to be fixed to not be so blatantly stupid.

Thats not bad. Though i wonder if that would be more of a long term change having to add all that in then something short term.

Oil pouring out onto a level surface has been in the game since beta. It's a feature. Use it to your advantage or perish.

Oil pouring UP is a bug and should be fixed at some point (please note I don't say will be fixed as I'm not Zenimax).
