I have been frustrated since the launch of Craglorn with fluctuating and inconsistent download speeds on the game launcher. Sometimes well below 10% of the available bandwidth sometimes almost 90%. The launcher does not have a lot of settings so I adjusted my router and made sure the launcher had priority.
ZoS suggested disabling AV and other security risks like opening ports, temporarily, to attempt to fix the issue. Along with a few other basic networking tips I definitely tried before contacting them. All that aside and now undone.
I was able to correct the issue almost entirely by raising the process priority to high in task manager. It now stays between 80% - 98% and usually on the higher end
I wish I had tried it days ago. I am fairly sure part of the fluctuation is on the server side, but ZoS did not acknowledge any such thing.
For those of you who are not familiar with the task manager the process is this:
1. press Ctrl+Alt+Del and release choose task manager from the list [If it does not appear by default]
2. Locate the process 'Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe'
3. Right-Click on the process and use the mouse to 'Set Priority' > 'High'
4. 'OK' the windows prompt and close the task manager
