Recently, pvp has changed to involve a lot more pve due to summoned guard spam. Is this how we want pvp to be?

Do you want summoned npc guards in pvp? Why or why not?

There's already a lot of PvE in my PvP, at least this one is player driven.

Besides, its a reaction to the Caltrop exploit. No problem with it that I can see.

so by your logic, why not just make it all pve since its got a lot of pve already?

thats just dumb, no offense. we want less pve in our rvr, not more, its not rocket science.

and the caltrop bug is being fixed within a few days...

No. It's an open PvP map for players. A sort of sandbox-ish area. NPCs are ok as long as they are few and limited to specific areas. I think they are currentyl already too many and too strong. Let's not turn this into PvNPC.

Its funny as they have been part of the game since day one and only now they are being used and now people complain about it. I think they are fine as keeps change hands way to quickly as it is now. Could they use a tweak? Yes an di think they do have a few bugs. I am hearing they become invulnerable if the keep changes ans there are a few left over. that needs to be addressed.

If you encounter a large amount of enemy players that outnumber your group, then you are able to bring backup with these extra guards. I don't see much at all wrong with them. Besides, if the enemy alliance gets upset by them, then they can go get their own.

... ok... and how about when its an even fight, but one team only wins because of a swarm of npcs? is that good pvp to you?

    how sad.

Yes. Cyrodiil is a strategic scale alliance war and not some silly arena with no npcs. Mercenaries are not free and play an important role in the war.

Well that goes to the team that has prepared more efficiently, I am struggling to see the argument here, because the defenders were just using the resources available to their advantage.

On the same token siegers deserve siege camps that spawn 20-30 melee only NPCs that climb the walls with grappling hooks or ladders to combat them. Atleast players not using siege would finally have something to do on both sides of the battle. They should only be able to be used when a siege is under attack and when the wall is still up though. Also tweak them down a bit I heard the hit pretty hard.

NPC guards are very badly implemented right now. There should be a maximum limit of 2 per player if they're gonna have these at all. And of course, the fact that they're bugged right now means they're OP. Just get rid of them, so we can actually PvP.

Hopefully the caltrops bug is fixed soon, then we'll be able to defend with siege weapons again.

I think the guards are good as it still provides some form of resistance when the enemy keep is undefended or if it's night time and not many people on the enemy team. If you could turn up to a keep with no resistance that would be so boring and you'd just get people soloing them. It's not like it limits your pvp, it's just another enemy, who cares if it's AI or another real player?

what i learned from this thread was that the average mmo player is really bad at pvp, resulting in the company dumbing down the pvp with added pve and ae caps, to promote zerg play to appease the masses, at the cost of destroying any potential competitive play.

how unfortunate. i hope that one day we get a competitive mmo that doesnt cater to noobs. maybe CU?

NPC merc are vital to the game's future: With limited player populations defenders need something that defend against.

Using a NPC as a PvP weapon is no differnt then Soco's pets being using in combat. TO complain about the PvE nature of mercs is to deny logic of PvP combat.
    Indeed it is so...

this is why we cant have competition, because noobs make up the majority of the population, and zos must cater to its base.

    unfortunate

The funny thing is that half these people will end up quitting AvA due to getting one shot by the mercs they say they love spawning.

Honestly, I think they should stay but lower the maximum available at a keep maybe 10 considering how hard they hit now.

And to be honest, I never saw or heard anyone complain about mage guards until after this last patch plus since the caltrops exploit became widespread. Before, mage guards weren't that hard to kill but since the update they are quite a bit more powerful and with the exploit, you expect people to not defend the keep their alliance owns with any means available to them?
  • Avidus

    I believe they should stay.

However their abilities need to be adjusted, the Melee mercs are easy to deal with and not once have I heard somebody complain about them.
On the other hand trying to capture a keep that is flooded by a seemingly unlimited source of mages..
It allows a single player to halt a full group just because they farmed up some mages.

So yes to mercs, just adjust their abilities, potentially their limit, I also believe the NPC's need to be tweaked to a point where they are not your main focus when capturing a keep or resource.

There are other ways to implement defending advantages. (defending buff, increases your health/armour/spellresist)

Other than that, Lowbei, you need to calm down and stop attacking people for their opinions and calling them noobs, its only hurting your cause.

i really dont care how you feel about my opinion, and will continue to call it like I see it.

The game is being dumbed down because it must cater to the masses, which are bad at pvp and want to zerg to make up for their lack of skill.

I didn't mine mercs before the NPC buff, but now it's completely out of hand. 1 guy sitting in the keep spawning and endless stream of sorc mercs? The main issue is, summoned NPCs should never be stronger than ACTUAL PLAYERS. This combined with how often the mercs bug out and become untargetable/invincible is ridiculous.

Of course there should be ways for smaller numbers of defenders to fight off larger groups of attackers; that method is supposed to be through siege weps - oh wait, caltrops... :V

What's the point of this poll, there are already summoned guards they add strategic advantages for a smaller defence and are little trouble for a zerg

Yeah I don't quite understand it either. Never once did I hear people complain about mercs before the most recent patch. Now that people are using them because of how much stronger they are because of that patch, and to combat people using the caltrops exploit, apparently the only logical explanation is to remove them from the game entirely rather than balance them back down, adjust their health, make less be able to spawn at keeps, etc.

If ZOS listens and removes them entirely, there will be something else new that needs removed.
