Hello everyone!
I wanted to share my opinion on my time in Tamriel since I start playing. Now first of all I must say I never though I would have played the game at all as I was not interest in it but for some unknown reason I end up buying it and playing it after I got invite in the beta and did not even tried it.
(About Pay to Win)
First of all to all the people who say this is a "pay to win" game I must disagree as you get no advantage whatsoever into paying for an Imperial edition or a horse on the cash shop in the end. Yes the Imperial race should have not been a reason for us to have to buy a "collector edition" but even with it you are not more powerful than anyone else in the game and neither the horse make you faster or more special. You are all as much special as anyone else in the end-game. You only have the choice to pay with your real money or take the time to gather the gold in-game to get a horse for example (And I must say that buying a horse does is really not expansive compare to how much money you can make and far from having to kill 18k skeletons as "angry joe" seem to think you have to do to get enough gold for one".
(About Horse)
Not only the main horse can be train every day for 250g in either speed, sprint, carry but the point you spent also stay permanent on your horse which mean if you put every day to a maximum of 50 points in speed your first horse will go from 15% to 65% and you will not have bought another horse. From questing at level 40+ I easily make k's of gold every day and quests is not something that is missing in this game. You can also easily if you do not feel for quests to gather and salvage. A simple stack of Iron Ingot worth 400gold just to a npc so making money is really not an issue in-game.
(About exploration)
I must say this is the point I love the most in this game... I can just decide to go North today and I will eventually always end up with some quests, mysterious caves to look into or beautiful place to see. Exploration is what makes an "Elder Scroll" game what it is... the free will and not being lock to a single chain of quests that will eventually bring you to point A to point B. Yes you do not have to explore if you do not want to there is a main quest line that you can do and get to the end of the game this way but you will miss most of what is about playing an Elder Scroll game... exploration, mystery and lore. This is what make it different than other most "mmorpg"... the experience of the unknown and the choice you will make through it and yes it can be scary sometime not knowing or having all these tools they all so easily give you now a day in games that are the UI addons.
(About the UI and more Exploration)
You have all you need to enjoy the game without having to add more to the game if you are resourceful. Need to know the hour? Stand still during the day, look north and look at your shadow! Afraid you will die and need a way to know when you are getting close to death? Look at your screen (right under your nose) the screen will get red slowly and it will warn you that you are close to the end! Need to find your way while you ride your horse to that specific place? Open your map and with your cursor press F key to add a pin that will show on your radar on top of your screen and ride your way there while enjoying the unknown you will find out on your way there! This unknown of not having everything on your screen is what make this an Elder Scroll game (exploration and lore) to let you find out by yourself like you would do in real life... It's not wasting your time, it's using your brain and being resourceful without being given everything in the palm of your hand... it's the sense of achievement and feeling it was worth it. But you have the choice to put your own "add-ons" or other people one if you prefer it this way! Please be careful when downloading something from the internet even "add-ons" make sure this is a safe website you can trust from a safe uploader!
(Bugs?)
Yes they exist, they will always exist and they will get patch and repatch this is the basic of life... trial and error but yes it is also true that the game could have use a little more polish especially where some quests could literally block your from progressing. Yes this is unacceptable but it happen and we should learn to give a chance. Now after almost 2months many quests have been fix and have never had any block progession in-game since I started my character because I knew that rushing to the max level in the release of a game would not be wise and worse I would not enjoy or even take the time to experience all these years to create all these quests, these stories, the lore, the characters, the voice, the scenery of the game... I would have simply waste all the beauty of it. (Yes they will break things sometime but they have shown us many time so far that they are fixing things even if they have to fix it again and until they really stop trying to put fixes and patch I will keep trying the change as they come)
(Bots?)
Sadly since at least 10 years now bots has been a problem in every online game and the more the years will go the more they will try and try to turn games into a profitable money milker but we and the game creator will fight against it as it hurt both side. On our side it make our "fun time" less fun... sometime to a point where it is not fun at all anymore and on the company side let's admit it, if we have no fun we will not stay and we are the "long-term" client they want to keep, not the scam, not the bots. If any like me have been here since almost the release you must remember when every caves, dungeons, crypt where there was a boss you could be sure to find tons of bots on them killing them before you have even the time to hit once! But after nearly 2 months? I barely see any bots anymore and if you do they are still almost all dumb enough to keep the same first cloths you start with "shakles include". What I would say might not be normal is the fact that they can even end up without any gear in ending-game contain and still farm this way... this I must admit is something I would love to see change...
(Monthly Fee?)
After spending my love of gaming online since 1998 (And no it does not make me better than anyone to judge anyone or any games
) on "mmorpg" I have played both the "P2P" (Pay to Play) and "F2P" (Free to Play) and can tell you that it is easier for us to spend more than 15$ for a vanity items in a cash shop a month than paying a fix price every month to have all the time you want to achieve and toy with all the contain they are throwing at you. Some example of why I feel this is a better idea than a cash shop a great example would be "Guild Wars 2" where they make you feel that you have to buy their stuff fast because it's only available for a limited time in their cash shop! Yes they give you the chance to turn your gold into cash shop money but they release items for a limited time so fast as much as contain for a limited time that you either cannot grind fast enough to turn these precious golds into cash shop money or even feel that you have to rush through new "free" contain because it wont be there next month. This is only an example and I am not saying that this game is bad or not but their choice of making you feel "you must buy fast before it's gone" and gambling box with your money made me felt more not important enough if I did not had that much money to spend on their game every months for them. A fix monthly fee of 15$ is far more than need for them to keep the servers up and pay their employees and still make money over it. Remember 15$ per person is not much but multiplied it by hundred, thousand a month and it make all the difference while you do not need to worry for your own pocket and the time you have to enjoy what the game as to offer you.
(Overall?)
This is not perfect and it will never be but it's a pretty damn different "mmo", fun to explore, mystery and puzzle to solves, lore to devours (knowledge is power right?) and most of all... you get to feel for once an Elder Scroll that is alive and make friends in it. I believe they deserve their chance in the industry of "Online game" and probably many people will come back later if they decide to quit now because there is a charm about the Elder Scroll game even Online that make us all love that franchise.
Thank you for reading me and If I think of more to add I will edit it! Please apologize my spelling as I am not native English but felt it was the best way to communicate with the "mass". You can find me in-game as
@pysta and I hope to see you all for many months and months to come in Tamriel... online.
