Damage Shield abilities - how do they work?

Hello everyone! A rather noob-ish question: how do these abilities work?

For instance, say I have an ability which grants me a 50 damage shield for 10 seconds. Does this mean that it absorbs the next 50 damage I receive and then goes away? OR does it mean that every time I take damage during the next 10 seconds, I get 50 less (for instance, 175 damage attack would be reduced to 125, 65 to 15 etc...)?

Thanks in advance!

It means that you get a shield that can absorb 50 damage, then it breaks. If you don't take damage for 10 seconds, it goes away.
At least this is how I have always interpreted it.

As I understand it you get a sort of "Temporary Hitpoints" that lasts until used up from incomming damage or the time runs out, wichevery is earlier.
If it does run out (instead of being used up), some morphs might transfer unused effect to something else (like Resto Staff emergency shield healing equal to absprtion left).

if you've played league of legends than you'd understand exactly what it means - it's just a temporary +hp thing

Thank you, got it. I kind of hoped they worked similar to D&D Damage Reduction thing, but oh well...

I thought it worked like this - say you have a dmg shield of 10 for 5 seconds. It reduces all incoming dmg by 10 for 5 seconds.

That's what I was hoping for. Apparently it's not the way it works.

Also keep in mind that magical shields don't take into account armor and spell resist. They disappear in a second. They should be a good alternative or complement to heal. They aren't.

At best, they help you against boss to "increase" the tank life and prevent him from being one shot. It looks good on the paper. But if you use them you'll notice that they aren't really effective for some reason.

They probably don't deserve a slot on your limited skill bar.

I hate to call a skill "useless" but it's the case from my own experience. Maybe someone will find a good use to these magical shields that I missed during my numerous tests...

Blazing shield is a bit different thought. It's a good damage source. If you're a templar. And wearing light armor wearer, of course. .. . . . . .
