If you stand on caltrops that you or a person in your alliance threw down you can get hit with siege equipment and not take any damage
This.
I've seen numerous "Zergs" using the exploit. They'll swarm the main gate and drop caltrops so flaming oil is useless against them. The gates are designed so that flaming oil is one of the primary defense tactics, and using this exploit makes defense much more difficult. I haven't been able to tell if they're immune to siege or to all AoE, but it's just another broken mechanic in a long list of broken mechanics.
If they don't fix this soon people are going to get pretty pissed. I see, in my campaign, a group of 20 using it when they are facing only about 10 of us AD... and it's just frustrating to the point of just calling it quits for PvP until they fix this crap.
Last night we had an epic defense going at Fort Ash, probably lasted an hour or maybe more, and no one was using caltrops exploit... it was just awesome but then the other alliance through it down in the doorway so our oil, ballistas and meatcats did nothing and charged in and got the keep... sort of ruined what was a good battle by using this caltrops exploit.
