Why are Gold tempers so costly and broken?

At maxed out temper perk, getting 100% for upgrades go like this:

Green - 2
Blue - 3
Purple - 4
Gold - 8

Why the sudden massive increase? WHY? All for what? A marginal 5% increase? And that's being generous. What is the POINT? If a complete gold-set gave you like, 25% or even 15% increase in overall offensive and defensive capabilities, I'd understand. But as it is now, a full purple-set accomplishes a decent boost just fine at a significantly lower cost that is only slightly inferior to gold. Slightly.

Generally speaking, it'll cost you an average of 140,000 gold to fully upgrade a full-set of armor ( 7 x 8 ) with maxed out temper perk to gold quality. lol?

Meanwhile, a full purple quality set would cost maybe 28,000 gold at maxed temper perk.

This is broken. No need for such a spike for a measly 5% gain. Should only take 5 gold tempers at max rank, since that's the progression rate anyway. Each color upgrade gives about 5% overall increase. So, 2,3,4,5 would be appropriate.

Thoughts?

It's supposed to be an exponential cost not a linear one. I am actually surprised it isn't worse.

Given how the other portions of the game scale I'd expect this.

    2 - green
    4 - blue
    8 - purple
    12-16 - gold

    or

    1
    3
    6
    12

Is this 5% gain per piece or per set?

Entire set. If you just do one piece, it's like barely any difference. Especially if they all have equal enchants/traits.
