I am thoroughly grateful that 1 of my days off falls on thursday. Why dont they do these things in the middle of the nights when everyone is sleeping..... They have to wait for their employees to get into the office at 8am?

Shouldn't it be, Inconvenience 20 employees to please thousands of customers. Instead of inconvenience thousands of customers to please 20 employees.

    1. They patch the servers - you cry
    2. They don't take the servers down for weekly maintenance - you cry

If the patch hasn't been added to the client yet, it would be pretty hard for us to start downloading.

People you need to chill out. It will be done when it is done might not be the answer you want or like, but it is true and accurate. Your complaining is not accomplishing anything.
Life of a Nightblade (Screenshot Tumblr)

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

They're not going to release the patch for download/client install until they know for sure that they don't have to roll back the server updates for it.

Not in the middle of the day. When most people are working. Except for people who can play while at work, or people who have days off in the middle of the week, or people who skipped school etc etc etc..... but most people sleep between 2am-8am So WHY

    WHY!!
WHY start maintenance @8am????? start that S*** at like 2-3am when most people are sleeping or going to go to sleep in the next hour. YES inconvenience the Late nighters. They are the abnormal here. Not the people who are AWAKE and Playing @ work, Have a day off, or Skipped school on a thursday

2AM in what time zone? Pacific? Oops, now I'm starting my day on the East Coast. Eastern? Now Pacific players are missing out on nighttime play.

They already schedule maintenance based on when the fewest people are online.

Ok so it is a big patch .. but what could they honeslty be doing? It was already running on the PTS, it isn't like they are currently writing the code for the patch. 8+ hours minimum is a very long time to load up a patch that has been tested on the PTS already.

Only speaking for myself I can deal with downtime twice a week that just coincidentally happens in my early morning (when I can do things briefly before work).
What bugs me just a little is when I'm told I will need to download a 5+ Gig patch but I can't do that while the servers are down, so if they are still down when I leave for work then I won't be able to start the 4-5 hour download till I get home with 4-5 hours before bed.

*sigh* I could wish they would release the patch for download while the game servers are down.

People need to understand that the server is international and the choice of maintenance time is based off login data collected by ESO team. 8am USA could mean 8pm Australia? I have scheduled maintenance on my evenings when I come back from work, yet I don't QQ?

    Maintenance at night - cry
Maintenance on Friday when some go out and have fun - cry
Maintenance on Monday when some have blues and most work - cry
Maintenance early morning when most are busy - cry

ZOS should pay you to do the maintenance schedule. Then you have a real reason for crying.

Did you know most late nighters are the hardcores? The dedicated players that sacrifice their sleep to maintain 2 lives? One in RL and one in game? And you dare to bring up weirdos who play at work, people who skipped school/work to play without checking maintenance schedule? Logic will tell you that these play@work and work/school skippers are much less in population compared to norm abiding work/school goers!

Understood the sarcasm but really wanted to let off some steam on these people. LOL.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

Really. What the hell is up with these people. If you're gonna live in a shack with two cans and a string for your internet connection you have no right to whine about

Well being a Network Admin now and currently getting a paycheck for it ... It is all virtual servers, everything can be tested and preloaded beforehand. It should not take 8 hours of downtime unless something went seriously wrong. Since you were a network admin you should know in 99% of businesses taking the entire system down for extended amounts of time would get you fired. With virtual infrastructure it should take very little time to move over unless things were not tested correctly, planned correctly or something just went wrong in the process. Maybe you were a network admin when servers had the OS, Hard Drives and databases all in one machine but in the current world of SAN's NAS and virtual servers the process of doing updates is very different.

My guess is these extra things they added in that were not on the PTS are causing unforseen issues ie: byproduct of not properly testing.
