Concept: dropped set research and crafting.

A simple concept when you find 5 items of a drop only set you can take those items to any crafting station and destroy those five items (any 5 can be selected regardless of item type jewelry included) in a way similar to trait research only you must select 5 and is separate from regular research. from then on you can freely craft those items at any crafting station by using a specific material in a new slot under trait items to give them the set bonus (will not work in crafted set locations). Of course not all sets should be learned but I feel some should have some way for people to learn and make there own should be made. Heck it could be a trait like say only lv40 can craft set gear that they research. what do you guys think?

I would only see them implementing this if the items crafted were BoP, otherwise it'd flood the market with very rare sets that aren't rare anymore.

Excellent idea! Though what @MrDerrikk said is the likely downside if you don't restrict it somehow. Complete poopy that we can't craft the Trinimac style of gear imho.

beats me. There is one for footman's fortune stuff so I'm not sure about when this idea would have been tossed around by the dev team. Shame they didn't go with it. Game would have been much better off.

Certainly a lot of details to flesh out ... but a worthy idea for sure.

I've got a lot of incomplete sets sitting in the bank waiting for matches: Elf Bane, Adroitness, Dreugh King, Arch-Mage, Permafrost ... and so on. But, if I could craft the set after collecting 'x' number of pieces, then I might be able to complete the set. In addition, it might add more choices, style, and variety amongst players and their builds.

Agree with @MrDerrikk ... you might have to keep it BoP. Also, maybe you put the new dropped sets on a cooldown until non-crafters have had ample chance to find them.

On paper a great idea, though.

If people can start crafting drop sets then it discourages people from doing the content that the items drop from. Don't get me wrong being able to craft some of the drop sets would be great but I think the reason they won't do it is because they want people to chase drop gear by doing the content.

Of course not all sets should be learned

By this I mostly mean sets that drop by doing basic things like healers ect not things like malestorm set gear.

Healers habit drops in DSA that is the sort of set they won't want crafters to be able to make. They still want people to do Arenas, Group Dungeons, PvP sets, Wrothgar Dailies and Trials.

I actually would like this, so long as it's limited only to sets that you can loot from enemies while questing, and anything bind on pickup is automatically out of the question.

They should have done this from the start. It would also let you craft like a heavy set of overwhelming etc if you wanted to. Would also be great for those that keep getting helms and shoulders when we DO NOT EVER WANT THESE PIECES, I want to use my MK or Nerenith. Proper annoying. Although it would reduce the grinds a hell of a lot....not sure of wanted.

If they did that I would make VR16 versions of the blinding flashes equivalent set, Warlock, a light armour version of Thunderous for my Sorc (lightening bomb incoming) and Martial Knowledge :#

Crafting would be OP. They would have to pick and choose sets they were willing to allow people to craft to max level if they did this.

This would be great. In order to reduce the impact of this on the economy the additional crafting mat required could be a piece of the same gear and the item would keep its bop status if it was bop. It would also require a number of traits depending on the item level to be created (so v16 needs 9).
If done this way it would allow you to retrait gear as well .

I think its cool that all the new sets have their own unique style. i love the winterborne skulls when i color it black suits a frost mage imo. And the robes of succession looking very wrothgar themed, I very much like the look. And parabellum is so cool. That helm! and it does make you feel more unique having that cool new style only available (AFAIK) to those using those sets.

Id love to learn those styles from the spare pieces of armor i get from all the runs at maelstrom and chest. much more likely to happen than being able to craft drop sets.

Actually, I don't think it's true since we can't craft jewelry so as for now, people will craft Hunding's Rage (BiS stam) or Julianos (BiS mag) from lvl1 to v16 and are only looking for sets with jewelry to complete their builds. So build diversity is almost non-existent in the current meta, at least for DPS. Tanks get a few more (weak) options and for healers only Spell Power Cure may be better than Julianos.
People who are chasing after gear are chasing after jewelry and monster sets or because they have some free time to kill and enjoy trying out new stuff - trying out new stuff is actually a great motivation.

Then this would be a great way to compliment the jewelry crafting everyone keeps on requesting ;)

You guys know all those things would affect how the game runs, right? People keep asking for more things that do not necessarily improve how the game plays but also complain about lags and long loading ¬_¬

At least jewelry crafting would be an improvement, but it should be that you have to find the white ones, and can only add traits and improve the rarity at a station.

More than crafting, it would be nice to upgrade.
That way, you can't make a Light Armor version of a Heavy Armor and vice-versa and you can't make staffs or whatever that is not present in the looted set you want to upgrade. That would limit OPness because if an Adroitness (just an example) set existed in v12 when v12 was the cap level and wasn't OP at v12, it would not be OP at v16 either.
Anyway, they have already stated that this isn't an option because:
    a) they know what we will do (curious that entire sociology/psychology schools are unable to predict Wall-Street behavior but game developers know how an entire player base will react)
    b) and they don't want us to do it (curious that the advertised game philosophy is "play as you want to")
    c) because players will only upgrade what they have an never use anything else (curious that now we use Hunding's Rage and Juliannos from 1 to v16)

    My opinion:
    a) not being able to craft jewelry is enough of a limitation to keep the players chasing after new stuff
    b) curiosity is motivation enough to chase after new stuff to try it out, we never know, something might be better tht Hunding's rage or Juliannos.

how is a horse upgrade p2w? its just a horse that runs faster holds more bag space for convenience lol now if the mounts could breathe fire and it took months to unlock the ability and you can just buy that from crown store that would be p2w or if they had horse racing be a thing. but a faster mount hardly lol

In PvE no but PvP is basically horse simulator online, a faster horse makes a HELL of a lot of difference especially when it comes to keep defense and offense. they need to battle level horse speed...

yeah horse speed makes a difference getting to a keep but obtaining the speed in 60 days vs 1 day either way you will get the max speed and be there just as quickly. most people who play daily have all their alts with a maxed horse as is. id say its more of a catch up than actual p2w

This actually would be a very good way to bypass the current RNG madness, if you have 10x sturdy pieces you can decon them and craft yourself a useful piece with divines or infused.

The set crafting mats should Bind on Decon in order to keep the gathering process relative slow.

You can just buy the horse with max speed on it from the stablemaster? That way you'd be able to upgrade the other things from there.

Yup, I know, watched it and the reasons presented are a joke, as showed on my previous post.
There are some sets that I would eventually upgrade but what really annoys me is the lack of options right now: we are basically "forced" to choose between 1 or 2 builds.
Crafting, Upgrade or simply grind for old sets again (if they would scale the drops to max level:) I'm fine with either options, as long as I can see more diverse builds out there. Getting a little bit tired of the Hundings/Juliannos rule (sigh)
