Skill Points at Veteran Level UP

I'm getting mixed messages about skill ups when advancing Veteran Ranks.

I have some players telling me they have gained skills when advancing veteran, some saying they sometimes have sometimes have not.

Some websites say 49+10 skills for levels, some say just 49, which is clearly +10 for vet or not.

The latest reply I have had from an ingame ticket is that you gain no skill points upon advancing Veteran rank.

A definitive official response would be great, but I'll also be happy to simply have a couple of vet level players confirm one doesn't get them.

Thanks in advance.

All skills cap at 50. They have no VR levels.

Though your title is misleading to your post question.

Your title answer: Yes each VR rank up grants a skill point. (no attribute points - tho base stats increase very slightly - +5 each attr, and minor increases to OC limits).

Also keep in mind skills only level up with XP.

While veteran rank only increase with VP.

They are separate, and different actions give different amounts.

(I'm VR6 and have tons of capped skills)

    Most importantly:
It really doesn't matter. There are tons and skill points available in the game. Far more then anyone could ever want, even with or without the VR ranks granting them. I have purchased and morphed every single skill that could ever be using to my character, maxed 3 crafting sets and am sitting on 20 skill points).

Every reference I make to Skill Up I intend to mean Skill Point. The effect of gathering 3 Skyshards if you like.

Axer responds "Yes each VR rank up grants a skill point."
Awe responds "when got VR 2 didn't get a skill point"

Thanks both for such quick responses. Two posts, two different answers.

This issue is NOT clear cut, obviously.

Yea honestly like I said, it doesn't matter to me anymore, so I don't pay much attention as I have 20+ all the time.

VR1 definitely granted a skill point. Pretty sure VR6 as wel.

It's possible they only grant them at "key" tiers. (6 is where you start your third alliance and receive a bonus item in the mail).

I did not get any for vr2 either. I was under the impression the only real advantage to vet ranks were all the other faction skyshards you could get and maybe softcap increase.

I said in guild that it wasn't a huge deal 10 skills potentially gained or not gained for 10 Veteran advancements is not an issue over 290+ other skill points available. But clarity on the issue is not unreasonable. Is it a bug, or is it not?

Thanks again (and also to Drakonklenok) for replying.

I'm going to consider the issue settled, with the answer "no skill points when gaining VR level" unless more people wade in all saying they gained skills points!

Same here, was rather disapointed too. Seems the whole vet thing is just a grind and no real sense of gain at the end of each level :(

The gain is all the extra skyshards (#/3=sp) for skill points and for gold to buy inventory etc etc,

e.g. I have the skill points to max out blacksmith/clothing/woodwork, its just a case of getting skill points to put into e.g. enchanting and perhaps one other, etc.

No, no one of my friends has gained a skill point when leveling up in VR. I just got to VR3 - no skill point either.

Same and agreed, at least we get the story, but as far as character progression goes, it's going to be a dead end quite quickly :(

"In 2014, a possible bot was sent to coldharbour by a military GM for a crime she didn't commit. This argonian promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Ebonheart underground. Today, still wanted by the developers she survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a bot problem, if no one else can bite you, and if you can find her....maybe you can hire The SQUISHY."

    So, to sum up:

The only benefit from advancing VR is the +5 to all 3 atributtes, the OC cap and the ability to wear higher tier gear.

I expected bigger rewards for advancing in VR levels if you ask me considering it takes much more time to do so....

You do not receive a new skill point when you increase your Veteran level. However, you do receive a new skill point if you are a Veteran player and your PVP rank increases. You can see your PVP rank (level number) by pressing L. It is the big white number on the left side of the pop-up screen's first tab. You will receive a new skill point as you increase your Alliance rank up to 50.

I have definitely been getting skill points for each Vet Level on my sorcerer, I just got Vet 2 on my Dragonknight and no points. Reported it in game and was told I shouldn't get skill points for levelling up in Veteran.

You do not get skill points or stat points you can allocate for gaining VR levels presently. You do, however, gain 10 points per stat automatically with each VR level up, as well as slight bumps to some soft cap max values. For skill gains related ONLY to VR levels, you must complete VR quests that give skill points, which include:
    1. Completing VR dungeon quests (e.g., completing vet Spindleclutch for the 1st time with the quest will grant you a skill point).
    2. Completing VR map public dungeon challenges.
    3. Completing certain of the Caldwell's Silver/Gold quests will also get you a skill point.
    4. Getting the Craglorn associated skill points (skyshards, possibly quests, can't remember exactly on the latter).
AFAIK, the above are the ONLY skill points available that are VR-content only. As others have noted, there are other skill points available that are *not* exclusively for VR-levels, which include:
    1. Doing clean-up on quests that give skill points that you may have missed on normal maps.
    2. Non-VR public dungeons/group dungeons each give a skill point.
    3. Skyshards across Tamriel.
    4. PvP rank increases give skill points (through Legionary, I believe you get the skill point when you get grade 2, once you're past Legionary, I believe you get a skill point at each rank increase (grade/title doesn't matter).

I received Skill points when I leveled up my VR character. I did not get ATTRIBUTE points.

That character now has 25 unused skill points sitting there doing nothing waiting for the developers to make some upgrades and changes so she can continue to grow.
Far too many characters to list any more.

I am OCD about my skill points and often decide where I'll be allocating in advance of when I know I'll be getting one (2/3 shards, doing a zone main story quest, close to leveling PvP rank, about to do an instanced dungeon run - although I hardly do vet dungeons sadly). I am V11 and have never received a skill point on leveling Vet rank, I am absolutely positive. While it would be nice to think that I have a unique bug that could be remedied with 10 SP falling out of the sky with a /help ticket, I sincerely doubt it, especially since the OP already said their /help ticket response specifically explained that vet ranks do not award skill points on leveling.

I wouldn't dismiss the benefits of better gear/higher soft caps/attribute gains, though. I have to say I feel pretty invincible in PvE right now at V11 (soloing anchors, most world bosses, can even survive solo for some Craglorn questing), and that's with a supposedly gimpy templar/heavy/stam build, although I suspect maybe that's more about the nerf to vet mobs than my awesome progress and play style, hehe. Seems like 90% of my deaths are skill bar lock-up/confusion or ability lock/combat freezing, rushing into the next fight before recovering enough resources, or if I do something dumb like aggroing trash mobs nearby during a boss fight. I won't really play with my build/gear for max PvP advantage until I hit V12, but I know there's definitely a difference between fighting a low VR single-digits and a V12, also (I can survive the former, haha).

This is all very confusing, to say the least. Some people are claiming they are getting skill points after advancing in the VR ranks, others, like me and my wife didn't receive any points after advancing from VR1 to VR2. We need the official word from @ZOS_GinaBruno‌ or someone else on the support team to let us know what should happen. My thought is that we should receive at least 1 skill point when going between VR levels as it just takes so much time and effort to do so compared with 1-50. As others have noted, there is not much sense of achievement when advancing in the VR ranks.
