As an avid roleplayer, I really, really like to get immersed in the game. ESO has such a wonderful feel to it and roleplaying is a great experience.
One thing I am starting to notice as an obstacle is the lack of things our characters can do while sitting. For example, while sitting using either one of the /sit or /sitchair emotes, it would nice to have my character read a book, write something, or even have a glass of wine or an ale. Things like clapping, or even laughing, should be available while sitting.
I think this would greatly enhance the immersion while RPing and give our characters some added personality.
On a side note, would it be possible to make it such that while sitting, when accessing the menu, our characters remain in the same position instead of standing? I'm realizing that sometimes, when checking the map or inventory while RPing from a sitting position, our characters stand up. It's a minor, minor thing but worth mentioning.
Thanks for your time!

So what we need is /siteat !
Yes! It's always bothered me that our toons just sit with their hands in their laps.
Now that sitting in all the chairs throughout the world is a thing, this is even more important to add to the game!
I like all mentioned in the above "ancient" op (like eating and drinking, etc.), but would also like to see:
- card holding, playing and/or shuffling
- dice rolling
- coin twirling through fingers, etc.
- skooma/hooka smoking, etc.
- pinfinger/five finger fillet
- all the facial, vocal and upper body emotes (laughing, slapping table, pointing, etc.)
Fun (game/bar like) activities people would do while sitting around a table.

If they were to do this, would they make these "additional" layered animations require a keyword to indicate that they should only effect unused bones in the model?
I.E. The player types in: /sit
so the player sits.
The player may want to eat while sitting, so perhaps they use the /siteat command, which is in my opinion annyoing (longer, and the engine would have to check to see if you are indeed sitting first)
Or, they introduce a command character for emotes. using the plus symbol after the forward slash would tell the game that you intend to have the animation as a secondary, or something that has lower "weight" associated with bone movement of the models.
I.E The players types in /sit
the player sits,
They want to eat while sitting,
during the sitting animation they type /+eat
This will make chaining emotes a bit more intuitive.
Though stress testing the system to see how we could make our character look like some form of shambling deranged maniac would be hilarious.

is there an official way to request this?

You can put in /feedback in game!
I believe we are getting even something better, at least we have spoken about Idle-Animations. Not that I know that Zen is making them but I really believe they are doing them. Idle-animations are just pure win, for players and NPCs too and yeah, for the game itself. I fully think they are taking that route, seems to be the best overall strategy.
Would be nice to have selectable emotes while sitting but that's not easy. There are currently seven sit emotes, all use completely different positions, etc. If you add a new emote to run from a sit position, you have to cater for the possibility of starting from any one of those seven postures, so you're looking at least seven new emotes for each act you want to carry out, not just one. That's why they usually force your character to stand before starting an emote, so your character is in a known posture.
