I think it may have started with the infamous Lighting patch that has basically halved the fps for almost everyone who played the game.
So yeah, unfortunately it just might be how ESO/ZOS work and a lot of people are afraid of them changing anything with how they usually do it.

Ofc they are afraid, what if ZOS mess it up and make the changes worse ?

But its just fear that controls them so that is why ZOS dosent listen to everyone, if they where nothing would changes.

But the complains wont stop, it will never stop because this is the Interrnet! and fear will allways exist : P

care to explain? how does barber shop creates lag? do you expect 100000+ ppl changing beards at one time 24/7?

also animation cancelling if done properly (forcing animations to play till end before allowing to cast another spell) would actually reduce lag.

I wish people wouldn't express such generalisations as if they were fact. That patch may have affected performance for some, but by no means did it do so "for everyone who played the game". It didn't even remotely affect the game's performance on either of my machines, for a start!

Grats then, you're in the very lucky minority I'm genuinely glad for ;)
All of my friends/guildies and plenty of randoms I've talked to about it have noticed a considerate drop in performance that patch. I've also heard complaints from some of big PvE/PvP guilds that the performance in big group settings(aoe and stuff, especially actual in PvP, though 12 people in Trials are also not such a small deal) plummeted down back then pretty much. Which of course doesn't imply you're lying - but it does imply you're quite lucky where most of us haven't been.

Forgive my grumbling though - I'm simply getting more and more frustrated with the state of this game lately. And I would love to still unquestionably love it but well...

I understand your frustration. However, not everyone follows the same playstyle and the fact that I neither PvP nor group (other than through co-operative play in dolmens, public dungeons etc) may well account for the difference in performance. If you'd said "most people" I wouldn't have commented, but "everyone" gave the wrong impression in my view and at the time there were a lot more than just me saying they had no problems with that patch which was a long time ago.

    Don't forget the Torchbugs too.

Not really a surprise anyway, this should've been expected after going from a sub-based game to a B2P game, instead of doing what FF14 did which was remaining a sub-based game even after their rough launch.

People love to talk about doom and gloom. The end of all things! I think focusing on the negative is often easier. So when they hear about some new feature or change coming to the game, then the naysayers will claim that THIS will be the end of the game. Basically deep down they love the game and are afraid that it will just disappear next week. :D

To answer your question - reason is that ppl have no confidence in ZOS's ability to fix things, that's why they are so scared of anything possibly going wrong. It's harsh, but that's how it is.

    Dear ZOS
Thank you for your diligence and constant fiddling with the PvP gameplay. The performance problems are certainly not due to lack of effort to fix them. I have enjoyed PvP throughout its various stages of functionality. Also thank you for keeping hackers and bots out of the game; I know that blatant cheating and hacks ruin my feeling of immersion in the game. I hope you have success going forward to increase player gameplay satisfaction while also introducing new elements and features to PvP. I do not envy the task ahead of you and your fine staff, but I know as a player that I will support your initiatives even if I sometimes voice complaints or criticism.
    Sincerely,
    @Messy1

jura i remember you from quite early days...out of all people dont you know that since launch in april 2014, this game had many many many fixes and content updates..and this game is at least twice as good and "fixed" than it was at launch...

thats why i dont get those naysayers...

bassically they join the game in 2.0 and then 1 small thing gets broken in 2.1 and ITS THE END OF THE GAME, ZOS, AND WORLD....

    lol
