Hi guys, Tamerlin here. You all probably know me as your friendly neighborhood sorcerer but I found a really fun and out of the box build for my light armor magicka Templar that I thought I’d share with you all. First off, I think everyone knows about the shortcomings of magicka Templars as is: lack of mobility, bugged skills, lack of DPS, etc. This build was built to bypass and or minimize those shortcomings. No sweeps, no toppling charge, etc.
DPS Bar – Resto Staff: Degeneration – Major Sorcery Buff, Might of the Guild/empower proc, + max magicka/+ magicka regen. Should be in every magicka Templar build imo. I use Degeneration over Structured because we will be weaving a lot of light and heavy attacks and the occasional heal on your DPS bar is nice.
Inner Light – 10% Crit chance, +max magicka, + magicka regen. I know its 2 slots but crit is a big part of this build so I make it work. Helps your crit heals and your crit dmg very nice to have.
Trapping Webs – Your go to spammable/sustain DPS skill for this build. I haven’t seen anyone try this with a resto staff light attack weave, but it’s very effective sustain plus 60% snare (and Fear synergy). Also it’s all magicka damage so with 100 in Thaumaturge this skill hits like a truck.
Blazing Spear – Potentially your ONLY Templar ability on your DPS bar, sorry not sorry. You need this skill for several reasons. First for the Aedric Spear passives: +10% crit damage, +10% dmg vs blocking targets, +15% block mitigation vs melee (nice for wrecking blow spammers), and the DoT procs Burning Light which is nice. The stun goes through block, it’s good for hitting steathers, and it has a cheap cost if you need to spam it (synergy is nice but really just the icing on the cake) And again it’s magic damage.
Inevitable Detonation (or Dark Flare or Radiant Oppression or Reflective Light) – Everyone goes proximity detonation but this being a ranged build we go with inevitable. It hits like a truck when procced with Might of the Guild, can’t be purged, and it’s magic damage. If you don’t have this skill unlocked or don’t like the cast time you can go either Dark Flare (magic dmg, nice AOE heal debuff, hits hard, proc’s minor sorcery), Radiant Oppression or Reflective Light.
Ultimate :
Dawnbreaker of Smiting – Magic damage, hits hard, cheap cost, hits dodge rollers, aoe, nuff said.
Heals/Buff Bar – Dual WieldPurifying Light – Essential for all Templars. Removes 5 negative effects, it’s a HoT, makes your Breath of Life stronger, cheap cost, and has a nice Purify synergy.
Inner Light - See above.
Channeled Focus – Another essential Templar skill. Gives you 480 magicka regen, makes your heals stronger, and gives you armor/spell resist.
Quick Cloak – A staple of my Templar build since the beginning. This gives you major expedition buff which you need as a Templar but the most important part of this build is the 20% less damage from AOE’s. Which is pretty much almost everything that really kills you in PvP: almost every ultimate, proxy/inevitable det, curse, steel tornado, impulse, 2h heavy/light attacks, etc.
Breath of Life – Best heal in the game, no other explanation needed

Ultimate:
Ice Comet – ranged, hits hard, nice snare. Drawbacks are that its not magic dmg so it doesn’t hit hard as it could and it can be reflected so you have to be smart when using it. EDIT: Now using
Empowering Sweep as a my ult. 15% blocking vs melee while healing is just too nice (wrecking blow spammers I'm looking at you -_-) in addition you take less damage from everything, unlike minor maim debuff which selects targets you take less damage from. It's also cheap.
I’ve had a lot of success with this build because it is hard hitting, keeps you at range(when possible), and most of all throws people for a loop. Most people see a Templar they expect a gap closer then sweeps/jabs. The animation for Trapping Webs is hard to see too so before most people know what’s going on they’re at half health

Dual Wield on your heals bar gives you high spell damage so it makes your heals really big as well.
Equipment – 5 Kagrenac’s Hope, 3/4 Magnus Gift, 3 Willpower. With this setup I’m at 41k magicka and 3400 spell dmg. Big heals and big damage. 5 light/1med/1 heavy for max undaunted stats. I’ve run this build in small groups, solo, and in full raid group and it effective in all of them. This is an open world build so there would definitely be some tweeks for a dueling build, but I believe it would be very viable in duels as well.
Here's a little vid of the build in action in Imperial City.
