VMA - round 7 - how'd you do the boss?

So I have put in quite a few (hundred) trys on this round and can't decide the best strategy

There are three options as I see it....
1). Kill both adds, and interupt the boss when he screams. The downside is his damage moves hit a lot harder and are a 1 shot for sure
2). Kill 1 add and keep the other permanently cc'd. The boss move still virtually kill and probably would 1 shot non sorcs. but it's a lot harder to do this and everything else
3). Kill no adds, cc one if you can and just focus on the boss. Now the bosses attacks are fairly okay, but the free roaming mender can lightening streak into you and 1 shot you.

So How do you guys do it?

    Kill the one add and then let the other shield you. DPS on the boss comes from inside the shield. It takes a few rounds of this, but this is how I complete it.

    You kill the add as soon as the scream is over. If you wanna be safe, just cc him right after the scream and then kill him. You can also dodge roll his attack quite easily.

    As far as I know this is the way to do it. It becomes quite easy if you get the hang of it.

    You can also bring the adds life to execute range when the boss is screaming to 1 shot it when he's done.

    Rinse and repeat.

    There was a day when stage 7 boss was bugged and the shield doesn't protect you at all. I was doing my 2nd ever vMA run that day and didn't know about it until I got there. Obviously it made life very tricky, but you can still do it (on Sorc and NB at least, not sure about templar and DK) by kiting the boss all over the arena since pretty much any attack is a one shot in his perma enrage mode.

    Yeap, kill the add as soon as its over. Once you get the timing right, you can even wind up some dps before the scream is 1s away from done.

    Oh yeah I almost did it by interrupting the boss once until a guildy told me about the shields lol

    Kill one of the mages, and leave the other mage alive. When the boss does the scream, the remaining mage will cast a bubble of protection on herself. You should stand in this bubble as well, and do not interrupt the boss's scream. This allows you 100% protection from the scream, while enabling you to get some much-needed damage on the boss. Edit: At one point, the shield did not protect the player. This has since been fixed.

    As soon as the scream mechanic ends, kill the second mage. Then you will likely get one of the spore summoners to kill (and potentially a DoT as well, if you get hit by the spores). After the spore summoner is dead, it's rinse and repeat.

    This is probably my least favorite boss, but here is what I do (siphon blade or sorc). Burn boss until adds spawn. Kill one add, and use shield to burn boss. Then immediately kill second add. Burn boss more, and repeat. Take out summoner ASAP if it is up. The boss is usually in execute by the end of the second add phase, so I just burn at that point. I think this is most RNG intensive fight in the arena.

    On my NB, I DPS as usual from inside shield. On my Sorc, I overload from inside shield, as my spammable is an interrupt. I generally dont like enraged bosses. :smile: The big source of RNG is that sometimes the add with the shield stands right on top of posion. You can position the add to some degree by choosing which one to leave up, but sometimes you just get unlucky. IMO the shield should protect from poison, but that's a different issue.

    Cheers guys did it second try with this advice. Currently stuck on final boss. Those deadroths damn. But feel a vMA completion is coming. So thanks.

    The guards are simple enough once you get comfortable with them.

    If you are melee, just strafe around them in a tight circle. This greatly Reduces the damage you take. If your ranged, then run away and burn them down before they reach you.

    It's also a good idea to save the spectral explosions for the guards when they spawn.

    The sigil of defense pretty much negates their damage... super useful while learning the mechanics.
