Finally a non-horse mount that wouldn't eat a pet goat. I always wanted a goat, but guar, senche, and bear probably all eat goat.

Giving us camels and all the other tat that's makes up a good deal of the crown store does generate a good deal of revenue for ZOS as obviously players suck it up as fast as they can. Fixing things does not generate revenue. If a player leaves because something is not fixed..it's buy to play so money already in their bank for ZOS. Are they looking for player retention ? I think not .. Again it's buy to play and they just rely on the ESO Lore to suck in new players.

Too many people fail to understand the concept of "teams". Different teams work on different areas of the game. The art team works on textures, models, animations, landscapes, designs (including things like mounts). Other teams then take the resources, make them work in the game. And given the mount system uses the same code across the board, I'm willing to bet most of the work is handled by the art team, while the code team just applies the resources.

In short, adding mounts is not resource intensive, nor does it really take away massive dev time from bug fixing to handle. While yes, I'm really frustrated ZOS seems to not prioritize fixes as much as I'd like, anger over Crown motifs and items is a bit misplaced.

I understand that different teams undertake different functions. My guess is that the teams that develop future DLC's and crown store items are resourced better and have more focus than the maintenance / bug fix teams as the former groups bring new direct revenues into the business. Bug fixing does not. It's like customer support.. They closed the 300 strong facility they had in Ireland with a view to outsourcing this function in the future. ZOS focus on where the money is.. Crown Store (DLCs and items) and new players buying the game on the strength of the Elder Scrolls content. Player retention is not high on their agenda otherwise we would not see servers in the state they are in for the length of time it's been bad... We would not see bug issues that have been around since game start etc. I think it's part of the problem with moving away from a subscription based model. A subscription based model drives a developer to focus on player retention in order to grow revenues. This to me is not a criticism of ZOS, at the end of the day they exist to make money and their behaviour is driven by the purchase model they have elected to use.

    Such a rubbish excuse.

And every penny they spend on crown store crap could be more money spent on bug fixing, balance and pvp dev teams....would be great if the profits were actually re invested into the game but I doubt that is even happening since things seem to be getting worse and staying that way for months at a time....

I wish I could kill all these camels in game....

Even the twitch streamers who have championed the game since forever are starting to give up on ESO if they don't see an improvement in stability, performance, pvp issues and balance soon.

The only thing keeping ESO alive right now is crown store fluff and consoles...

I think you might be right, which is very sad, they are very much not interested about who stays around, they have aimed their marketing including the 1 million dollar contest around quick cash injection, short term turn over of players and don't care about the long term life or community of the game, which I think more and more players are starting to realize.

I already countered that terrible excuse...zos defenders on this forum are nutz, they literally defend anything and everything.

The lag, balance, bugs, exploits and just things plain not working and sometimes for months at a time is just completely unacceptable. Any penny spent on crown store fluff or penny made could be spent on increasing bug fixing, performance and stability, pvp dev teams, but it hasn't and probably won't be.

People will leave if it's not addressed. Like they did back in 2014.

Artists (meshers and texturers) aren't always coders. Coders aren't always artists. It's not a matter of defending ZoS, it's a matter of different people doing different things.

I've been a modder of games since Doom, my mods are usually models and textures because that's what I can do. I couldn't code my way out of a paper bag. No one would be expecting me to bug fix code. I wouldn't know where to start.

I agree - the bugs need attention, but 3d modellers and texturers aren't going to necessarily be able to do that.

On topic: I'm looking forward to riding a camel. Would like to ride one in real life too.

Never said they did or are able to, I guess people just choose not to read and put words in others mouths...

It's such a terrible excuse. Every single dev they hire or pay to do crown store fluff could be another dev hired on the balance, bug fixing, exploit fixing, pvp or performance and stability dev teams.....

The money they make from the crown store could be used to increase those dev teams also....reinvesting in to the game...

Is that being done? Well from the increase in issues being left in game for months at a time....not a chance in hell.

Either way having these issues in the game for months at a time is completely unacceptable and only ZOS is to blame. They can execute the crown store items flawlessly though.....99% of the time...funny that.

I guess players are happy as long as they have camels to ride...

But thanks for the tip :)

They also spoiled it in a Loremaster Archive. Here:
Lady Honnorah af-Lahreq says, “There is nothing wrong with camels, as either mounts or pack beasts, and I have the greatest respect for them! Their recent scarcity in Sentinel just shows the power of fad and fashion. Though the Aswala, as keepers of a precious Yokudan legacy, are naturally Crowns, our family was friendly with young Prince Fahara'jad, although he and his family are Forebears, and provided him with several fine steeds in his youth. When he became king (at least of northern Hammerfell), my cousin Merric suggested that, as a gesture to the Crowns, his majesty might make a strong statement reinforcing the tradition that the most prestigious mount for a Redguard is, and always has been, a well-bred horse, and not the camels the Ra Gada found here when they arrived on these shores. King Fahara'jad took Merric's suggestion, and suddenly every rider in Sentinel had to be mounted on a horse! (This also happened to be a fortunate turn of events for Aswala Stables.) However, though horses are the finest mounts gallants can ride, they are thirsty beasts, and expensive to maintain, particularly compared to the hardier and less finicky camels. I predict that, within the year, camels will once again be seen on a regular basis in Sentinel, and throughout northern Hammerfell.

I wish they would bring those Loremaster articles back. :'(

EDIT: Thank you for those codes BTW OP; they helped me dig up some other things. Those things are a little off topic however, so I'm going to post them in this thread instead.

The fact is they have to do both. Not one or the other.

If they don't fix things you are correct, people will leave.

If they don't offer new content and things to do, people will also leave. You have to understand that too.

Fixing bugs though is much harder and more time consuming than simply writing new code or creating new items. That is why they are able to spit out new mounts much faster than fix new bugs.
