Players AFK leveling at grind spots on PS4

DragonxTortoise
I went the Desert grind spot today while questing and noticed 3 players AFK on the cliff aiming down at mobs with the 'R2' button held down with a rubber band or something AFK killing mobs. They do it on the Sorc with a fire staff.

I reported them. It is against the rules right automated gameplay?

Thanks

I'm Xbox one and level up by questing but seriously if people want to level that way go ahead! Take it from someone who's onto leveling their second character to vr14 solo; with such abhorrently boring quests I say let people go afk! Good luck to them.

I'm also leveling my 2nd char solo (my first being vr14 and my new one is vr8).

AFK leveling is cheating. And it looks really bad seeing 2-3 people standing there abusing. Wonder what it will look like when 10-20-30 people are doing it. Fine if people actually kill the mobs but not by rubber banding the controller.. :(

Yes, it is against the rules to do anything automated. It also seems to be a bug, as mobs are supposed to reset if they can't attack whatever it is that is damaging them. That is to say - if there is no way for the mobs to reach the players on the cliff, they should reset almost instantly.

Edit: Saying that though, skills activate on button release, not on press, so holding down a button, in theory, shouldn't do anything.

I'm not sure that this is against the rules. How could you genuinely ban someone for using a rubber band? lol

If they were afk with macro's running and such, then sure, but using a rubber band to hold a button down?

I've seen people doing quests where they have a helper NPC and just hold down heavy attack and face it towards an enemy spawn. As soon as it spawns they hit a heavy attack on it and the NPC helps to take the enemy down. I could care less though. That xp has to be awful lol.

I think it would still technically be covered. Here's the Terms of Service:
You agree not to use any hardware or software or any other method of support that is not authorized by ZeniMax or that may in any way influence or advantage Your playing abilities, or influence or advantage Your use of the Services. Third party tools, the use of ‘bots’, “speed hacks”, “deep-link”, “page-scrape”, “robot”, “spider”, algorithm or other programs that copy or monitor any part of the Services (including, but not limited to, the Game(s) and/or forums), software that transmits, manipulates, or distributes (including, but are limited to, “mirroring”) the data stream or any aspect of the Services to another computer, server websites or other publication or distribution media, or software that permits You to use Services without human input are examples of methods not authorized by ZeniMax.
So, in its basest sense, rubber-banding the controller is use of hardware without human input to advantage your playing abilities. As I said above though, since abilities fire on release, holding down the button with a rubber band shouldn't actually do anything.

Sorry but, you're assuming a rubber band, they could have just been standing still? It's like me when I repair keeps, I usually take the remote with me and keep pressing the button, then when I go back to my room I should be out of repairs.

Okay, let's punish grinders. You are already forced to quest if you want to lvl up above 50 and now let's just completely forbid it.
Want to play endgame PVP or PVE? Please sir, do your quests first.

Grinding is not fun, it never will be, but it will always exist in MMOs. If I make someone else grind instead of me, is that cheating too? Because I'm not actually experiencing the phenomenally interesting process of repeatedly killing mobs.

And yeah, AFK grind is very ineffective.

This is an old trick Sorcs (mainly, though I've seen other classes sometimes) use, there are many places it can be used.

@21jws10, sure it's possible but experience of this game since release would tell me it's highly unlikely over any lengthy period .. I once watched a trio do this over the course of a couple of hours while I was fishing, 12 hours later they were still there a couple of levels higher.

These are not grinders. These are 2-3 people who have been standing in the same spot firing down on the same mobs for hours. I have no issue with grinders at all.

As for the 'skills activate on button release, not on press' these are players using a fire staff which fire auto holding the button down not requiring a release. Try the fire staff for yourself there is no release require to use it simply hold it down continuously.

3 mobs every 30 seconds for 24 hrs is a lot of exp :-)

Where did you get the idea I was punishing grinders? I'm talking about people who are leaving their chars logged in while they sleep- killing mobs and levelling up without doing anything. Esenally these AFKers are taking grinder's spots. Imagine when there are 10 or 20 people in the grins areas then the real grinders cannot get any mobs.

I have no issue with grinders at all.. They are still earning their levels. It;s the [SNIP] AFKers leveling 24/7 while they sleep

I wasn't rubberbanding. I went to the bathroom and my controller was pressed up against something. Prove anything else happened. Can't wait to see your conclusive evidence

Pressing your controller up against something intentionally is no different than using a rubber band. It does the same thing. If you are standing there for hours upon end while not playing your cheating. Guess you cannot handle the grind.

The 3 people were there for hours and hours and are probably still there now. Guess you levelled your vr14 by sleeping. [EDIT]

Wow this CAN'T be good for your Ps4. No way I'd leave mine on for hours on end unless I have a couple of hundred $ to spend on a new Ps4.

So on the bright side karma will pay them back with a Ps4 melted into a lump of plastic.

Ah right, never used a staff much, so I was assuming it was the same as a bow, where you can charge up by holding down for longer, but still have to release the button to fire.

    I do see your point,

However you do not xp for mobs which are 5 lvls below you.. I Do agree that AFK players are irritating, but firstly- it would take them a very long time to lvl (just by using lights attacks) and secondly- they will not get xp after they reach a higher level.

Also, a player only gets xp for the mob if he deals some damage to it. So those who just AFK stand on the spots, don't leech any of your xp. For me, the really annoying ones are those who run around grinding spots light attacking every mob they see in order to leech maximum xp from the other grinders.

    Sry for misunderstanding

You are correct on that! I haven't experienced lag on the Xbox until those pig stalls last night. I was helping a friend with a quest in that area the other night and for the life of me couldn't understand the lag. Walk into the barn and you would of thought it was a full on raid on those poor pigs. :#

My ps4 is rarely turned off. When it isn't in use it just turns itself off in rest mode. It's kind of built to stay on for hours on end. Hell, my ps3 pretty much just stays on and it's almost a decade old.

I'm almost certain that if you put a piece of sellotape over your left mouse button on to it's base, it almost certainly would never, ever work.... :D

To be fair, I couldn't imagine anything more boring or frivolous :| Especially as you can do 1-50 in sub 11 hours.

Here you have a pair of them (perhaps levelling buddies with mara ring for 10% extra exp) Been there since early this morning.

Grinding isnt fun ? As a guy who played alot of japanese mmorpg, i got used to grinding and im enjoying it. 30-45 min of grinding i get maiby 2 lvl and inventory full of equip and glyph to break. I break them drop to bank and repeat.

On my first playthrought i did every single quest and was vet rank 1 at the beginning of coldharbour or so. I have no intention of doing that again unless its on another alliance, grinding is much more rewarding. Don't like grinding? Fine, leave grinder alone.
