Class Forums Needed

In light of all the changes coming in with 1.6 and the eventual rollout of the Champion system, I would appreciate seeing a little more flexibility in the forums for tracking class related information.

To date, this game has been out nearly a year and we still do not have class sub-forums in the Combat and Mechanics section.
I believe this is needed and could offer many benefits, some of which could be:
  • They would allow a simpler way for people to find, post, and discuss information related to their class of choice without having to weed through the various forum sections for the info.
  • They could help generate some sense of connection between players based on class concerns and focus.
  • They could be a useful tool for the development team to use whenever they wish to pose specific questions on class changes, skill updates etc. or just simply read.
  • They could be useful for new players looking for class specific information and a place for them to make class specific questions.
  • They could hopefully at some point be a place where devs would actually engage in providing direct posts themselves on a regular basis which are class focused as opposed to the ones currently posted for the whole game in Developer News.
  • They might actually help build the community on this site by attracting players looking to theorycraft here rather than having to do so in third party sites.

If you think this would be useful or conversely not needed, please share why.

EDIT: Now THAT 1.6 IS OUT --- there are many people looking for class specific info related to the changes and how these are affected under the champion system. As of March 17th, there will be an ever growing presence -- for a while --- of new players on the forums wanting to learn about and ask questions about their chosen class. As far as I can see, the reasons ZoS Provided to NOT make class forums are no longer valid as the game community and the game istself is changing. Please reconsider this request.

To jump on this thread: I agree. It is tedious to have to sort through posts to find (hopefully) "Healer" in it to try and gain some knowledge. Or worse, to find out it is from a DK who just wants to cry about not being able to heal. I agree with all the points above and would look forward to having a specific spot that I could find the info quickly. Or to give advice to new players. And I would really like to have the dev interaction. So +1 for all the reasons above.
Follow me if I advance, Kill me if I retreat, Avenge me if I die.

When this immediate evil power has been defeated, we shall not yet have won the long battle with the elemental barbarities. Another evil, it may be an invisible adversary, will attempt, again, and yet again, to destroy our frail civilization. Is it true, I wonder, that the only way to escape a war is to be in it?

If I die, you are forgiven, If I live, I will kill you.

To be honest . seeing they completly redid the forum, and didn`t think to put actual class forums is kinda stupid, I was surprised there wasn`t actual class forums a year ago, but seeing them completly redo the offical forums and still not think to add class forums HA HA .
must have been the same guy that designed the LFG tools and Guild store that worked on the forum redesign.

I agree, actual class forums would be a great feature to the forums. Especially with the new layout, I don't mind scrolling through topics but occasionally I'd just like to find what i'm looking for immediately. I'm sure a lot of other people would appreciate the simplicity of this as well.

I want the skills forum to be a place to view all the posts about skills and classes in one place. I want that forum to pull the discussions from subforums for each of the classes and skill lines to view only. This way, people post into the proper subforum, but can view all at once. Then if they need to they can filter by going one level deeper.

That or post tags that can be filtered.

Well that is just is, there are no class subforums at all to even make this happen and right now, sifting through thread after thread to find information one is looking for is not very practical let alone really conducive to engaging discussion effectively. My hope is that @ZoS will finally step up to this because I think it would help a lot of issues where feedback and discussion is concerned.

The other thing that needs to happen is archiving the entire forum and starting from a blank slate.

In a few months running a search for anything will largely be a waste of time considering the changes in 1.6.

I also can't stand all the recent necro threads with 5 pages of 8 month old posts followed by 1 new post.

I would move to archive everything quite just yet. There also needs to be a way to track past changes so sometimes necros can actually be useful. Sometimes, not always.

They will add a class-specific section to the forum as soon as they add a trade section to the forum, which means it's never going to happen. They won't do anything for us that's actually useful.

I don't know why anyone is unwilling to give us class forums. That's just hilarious.

It doesn't cost anything nor does it break anything, it has only advantages so please give us those class forums.

Well I guess considering the lack of people even asking for this to date, it does make you wonder. Personally I would prefer to keep my ESO realted reading and posting to this site since it is afterall, the "official" place for the game, yet the lack of this single feature by far is what has compelled me to continue reading and posting on other sites since they offer you the option to communicate specifically on class issues andf ignore everything else if you so wish.

Here, you literally have to run searches constantly and snoop through tons of threads to find the info you want. Where class ideas, concerns or updates are concerned it would easily be nipped in the bud if they added this simple set of subdivisions.

Why they refused to do it? I could write a set of specualtions about it, but it would likely not go over very well with the moderators....

+1. Did you also copy/paste this to the forum update feedback thread?
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

I posted a link to the thread in response to a comment there, but no I have not copied and pasted the original OP. EDIT: copied there as well, thx.

Well perhaps the DK forum might be more heavily trafficked than others but we can only speculate. Given what is happening in 1.6 I'd say for the time being, Sorcs have a lot to discuss with each other....

As is, forum sections for each class have many merits and I believe if they added them we would see a significant improvement in the complaining about "DK complaining" since it would not just get dumped into General Discussion all the time, or at the very least it would help diminish it since threads like that could simply be moved to the correct locations for them.

To be fair, the DK forum would literally just be complaint posts made by NB players.
    Invictus
Kilandros - Dragonknight / Grand Overlord
Deimos - Templar / Grand Warlord
    Sias - Sorcerer / Prefect
Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

DK IS NOT JUST A TANK CLASS. #PLAYTHEWAYYOUWANT

I am sure there would be some amount of trolling as there is everywhere.

The thing I noticed a lot in having class forums in other games was actually the opposte though, since most everyone posting was there for something specific and would quickly band together to totally ignore the posts if someone came in just to troll the theads, so they were always easily gotten rid of as the trolls would then lose interest.

    What this guy said.
Looking for Group tool: takes 2 hours to form a group of 4.
Guild Traders: thousands of items, no search feature.
Forums: get rid of LOL buttons, bad search tool, no class forums.

I agree with this as well. There is the http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/categories/combat-character-mechanics but having it broke down by class would be a great improvement.

I also think that post from before x.x.x patch should be archived or something to try to get rid of non-relevant builds
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

Looking at Tamriel Foundry's thread counts for their class theorycrafting subforums looks like this:

    NB: 609 topics
    DK: 485 topics
    Sorc: 371 topics
    Temp: 419 topics

General Class Discussion: 2435 topics. More than all of the subforums combined, lol.

Obviously not a hardcore metric by any means, but an interesting tidbit of info in light of people who think everyone plays DKs.

Personally, I assume that there are no class subforums because they tend to become a sort of "boys club" where most players of certain classes no longer wander into the subforums for the other classes. It seems intended that game mechanics and combat are to be discussed as a whole, instead of just "Let's only talk about Templars".

A lot of times this leads to misinformation or victim-like sentiment being passed around to an entire subsection of the game (ie: NBs are underpowered, buff us!) w/out much relation to the rest of the classes and how requested changes might effect other players.

Certainly, while it's important to discuss how changes effect certain classes, I find it counterproductive to exclude those who may have differing opinions or play other classes by hiding sentiment in a subforum. If you start a thread about Templars for Templars in the Templar forum, it's pretty unlikely that Sorcs are going to come in to voice their opinion.

You may WANT this, but I don't think that ZOS does.

Classes were a mistake. They're probably thinking they'll compound the problem by catering to it.

Personally I think they should have abandoned classes when they were making all the other changes. /shrug
