It is an issue with the cape physics causing lag in Cyrodiil. I'm sure they have people working on them but until they function well without causing major issues... we won't get them.
I wonder if ZOS has tried Havok Cloth. It's a plugin for the Havok physics engine they use... and it works across all Havok products.

Then just disable them in pvp?
I read somewhere else on the forums that while they started development and making the models in the Havok System they changed to an in-house engine. I don't know whether that is actually true though.I wonder if ZOS has tried Havok Cloth. It's a plugin for the Havok physics engine they use... and it works across all Havok products.

A good rendition of a cape that doesn't clip through armour all the time would introduce a number of extra points to track. That's probably going to be fine for the PVE component of the game but trying to render the additional graphics in Cyrodiil on 40 plus people in a combat would probably cause a lot of additional lag effects.

Yes, they are. The cloaks/capes are a fairly obvious invention for any people that is able to work with textiles and need some sort of protection from the cold/rain/sandstorms/whatever.
Both Arena and Daggerfall featured capes and cloaks on some characters:
Cloaks and Capes "disappeared" from most games on the "early days of fully 3D rendering" because it was too difficult to make a good looking cape. Just look at how many games from these "early" days gave up on cloaks; Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights; Dungeon Siege...
The ones who tried made absolutely ugly capes, like modded NWN capes, WoW capes, etc...
Due to 'habit' and more technological complications, the following Elder Scrolls games had no capes as well, but they were always featured on artworks and such from the series...
So, please... I understand the graphical and stability issues that proper capes would bring. But don't come with the lore argument because saying that one of the most common pieces of clothing throughout History and different places of the world wouldn't be lore-friendly on a setting that draws a lot from our own world is simply absurd.
Other than that, keep beating the horse, mates. I do want to see well made, realistic, linen/fur cloaks in the game one day :disagree:

Lots of MMOS have them and people does not make a big deal out of it,And more customization never hurts,Besides the game used to have cloaks.

It also would be nice if the player characters had access to such things because ANYTHING to make my character's armor seem less 'Skin-Tight' is for the better.
Capes maybe. Cloaks sure.
I think people get the idea that capes and cloaks are the same thing, and they aren't, capes are entirely stupid and only for 'looks' which TES doesn't need
Cape
Cloaks on the other hand at least offer some resistance to the environment, or ability to display ones' sigil. Neither capes nor cloaks are valid in combat, so turn them off in Cyrodiil.
Cloak
This isn't DC Universe, so please, no capes.
