Problem with special characters/apostrophe in User IDs - can't send direct messages

I have an ongoing issue, that I believe is related to the fact that my user ID has an apostrophe (aka special character) in it.

It started with some missed tells - then a group member asking me in group why I'm ignoring them. I hadn't received a single /whisper from them. One got really mad at me and left the group.

I happened to mention this to my guildies, and they said my account name does seem problematic - that when they try to /whisper to my user ID, they get a message "Account Not Found". They say the only way they can send me a message is by sending it to my character name. Some said they have experienced this same problem with other people who have apostrophes in their user ID, which is why I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.

Is anyone else experiencing these things? If so, do you also have an apostrophe or other special character in your user ID?

    Yes, I have the same issue with my son's account name which has an apostrophe. I can't whisper to him. I have to use guild chat in order to communicate with him. He's also said he has problems communicating for trading/selling purposes.

    Could say this is a confirmed bug if not official yet.

    However you can send a tell directly to the character's name he is currently playing (i assume the same bug collides with character's names too if there's an apostrophe in the name) instead of UserID.

    Yeah that's the strange part - people have no issue sending a tell directly to my character name, but it actually DOES have an apostrophe in it as well. So my user id is @A'bc, and that has problems, but my character name is A'bc de fgh, and that works fine. /boggle

    I hadn't seen that other thread - thanks for linking. Guess I'm glad to know this is a bug, and not just a problem with my account.

    Hadn't thought about the spam - I guess that is a bonus. Are spammers sending /tellls directly to players these days? If so, I haven't gotten any. I do still get mail spam, and have never had a report of people not being able to mail me. The only problem is with direct messages.
