So... let's talk about B2P and not F2P

Let's just say that ESO switches from the current sub model to a B2P (you buy the game, there is no sub and there is a modest cash shop) model similar to GW2 to coincide with the console launch.

I'm not saying that this going to happen or that it will be announced just before or at PAX South next week. I just want to know how you'd feel?

I expect buy to play would mean just as much a cash shop full of crap as free to play would.

The main problem with B2P is that it always ends up the same. Players with the most money to spend, (theirs or their parents), win, everyone else loses. If you think there's an inbalance between people who can spend more time playing and those who can't, just wait until you run up against "elite players" who can afford to drop a few hundred a month to buy the best skills and equipment.

It's possible and I would hate to see that too, But there are other models such as Destiny's B2P + DLC model.

So long as it doesn't go the way of Guild Wars 2, I'd be happy. Of course, f2p is out of the question for me.

Let's make a thread which is almost identical to many other threads, but worded slightly different. I'm just curious why this information is at all important to the OP in any way for them to create another topic that has been beaten to death. Are you losing sleep over this OP?

Overall, I prefer the sub model.

In regards to B2P (If the sub requirement was removed):

Any B2P model that includes a cash shop, I don't consider an option.

A B2P model with paid DLC (replacing the sub fee) and no cash shop, I would find ok-ish. (aka Destiny model)

Horse has been beaten to glue please stop. This game will never go f2p in any of its forms get over it. "f2p" is the most dishonest disgusting model of any MMORPG and should just die.

Edit: You didn't put my option either which would be "I would pay double just to keep free-loaders out."

EEeeeeeeeeeeewwww, how can anyone like the b2p model after gw2? The game launched two years ago and still barely improve. Just compare how much FFXIV ARR and GW2 changed and you will see which is the superior business model.

I'm not dead against B2P games as such, but it depends on the quantity and more importantly the quality of updates that would follow the change.

I've enjoyed Guild Wars 2 in the past and still pop on from time to time as I'm in a lovely guild there, but I feel their "living world" style episodic stuff is a bit too thin and the item store gets way too much attention. I'd prefer the balance to fall the other way with less cash shop garbage and more meaningful story and group content.

And to echo some other posts, was another thread on payment models really necessary?

I would gladly take my ESO subscription money and spend it on another game.

I would leech off the people willing to pay for ESO so that I don't have to.

I would stop playing when the "free" ran out.

I do not want a persistent, annoying, flashing icon on my UI reminding me that life would be oh-so-much-better if I just take out the credit card. Nor am I interested in finding a magical locked box on every other trash mob that can only be opened via a key purchased in the cash shop etc.

B2P still has a cash shop and constant in-your-face reminders that it's there. I can already envision the vaunted customizable ESO UI, designed bare-boned for "immersion" and "personal taste", with a neon sparkling cash shop icon in the bottom corner that cannot be removed or hidden even with a addon.

B2P would actually make sense from a business point of view.

You really need to treat all of your customers equal, or else there will be bad blood between different fractions. Plus, if you want the game to thrive on all supported platforms, offering one of them with worse conditions than the others have would be detrimental.

Suppose the sub model is staying. All of us pay an ISP for internet traffic volume. All of us pay a sub: PC players are billed directly by ZOS for 100% revenue, while console players ... well, ZOS can't bill them directly, can they? They'd have to go through the manufacturer's networks and billing systems, meaning less sub revenue for them. Raising the sub fees for the console version of the game to counter this would be utterly unattractive and players would call foul. Console players then also have to pay their respective console manufacturers an additional fee for the right to play online in the first place.

Suppose B2P is coming. We all still pay our ISPs, and while the console network's online fee won't go away, ZOS is out of the equation of raising running costs to access the game regardless of where it's played. Content can conveniently be portioned into new zones (just take a look at the Tamriel map) and sold as DLCs on all channels. Heck, they could even offer something like season passes (i.e. a number of DLCs for one price), which wouldn't be so different from a subscription at all...

B2P is something i can live with. But F2P? No way! IF they went b2p and had a cash shop i would not complain it if was cosmetics and race/faction changes etc.
