Tamriel Festival (fishing derby, horse racing, archery competition, and dueling tournament)

Imagine people scattered throughout Tamriel celebrate a few times a year by throwing a festival. As you walk around a major city, you see jesters dancing, jugglers juggling, acrobats performing. Chefs walk around selling their meats and cheeses for their guests to enjoy. And don’t forget wine, mead, and ale to wash it down. You hear a catchy tune as a Bard plays their favorite instrument. Meanwhile, you look off in the distance and see banners for tournaments and games, such as:

Fishing Derby
Players competing in the fishing derby will try to be the first to catch and turn in 30 fishing trophies from tournament waters. Winning the fishing derby will award the player an achievement "Master Fisherman."

Horse Racing
Players saddle up on their trusty steed and go head-to-head around an oval track. Players watching the event may place bets at the gambling station before the event starts, where they can stake gold on a particular player. Winning a horse race will award the player an achievement "Master Racer."

Archery Competition
Players competing in the archery competition will try to shoots as many targets with the bow as possible in little time. The targets are marked with 10 evenly spaced concentric rings, which have score values from 1 to 10 assigned to them. The score is summed for all arrows at the end. Winning the archery competition will award the player an achievement "Master Bowman."

Dueling Tournament
Players may compete in the dueling tournament to test their combat skills against other players of the same faction. To duel, you must enter a dueling circle. Dueling circles are large circles with a stone perimeter. If a player leaves the stone perimeter or their health is reduced to 1, they lose the duel. Players cannot die from dueling. Winning the dueling tournament will award the player an achievement "Master Dueler."

This would be a great addition for a future content patch; increasing immersion and making the world feel alive. This festival could also correspond to important Holidays mentioned in lore. Thoughts?

Perhaps the festival can happen in reserved areas of low level adventuring areas. They could have prizes, special recipes for provisioning, a festival related motif, a group of extra missions based around the festival, special learnable emotes, etc., could be fun.
Side effects of reading messages on forums can cause nausea, head aches, spontaneous fits of rage, urination due to intense laughter, and sometimes the death of your monitor or other object in throwing range. If you find that you are reading forums more than 24 hours a day, please consult your nearest temporal physicist.

I'm thinking you could have a cook off competition as well. You could win special recipes as the prize. This festival would be fun as hell!

This game DESPERATELY needs a social fun factor to it, as it is right now, we have questing, questing, a little more questing, and ultra lag PVP if you live in Europe or use the "EU" server. We had frog racing in the Dominion, but that was removed for some DUMB reason....

If the game was more sandbox, well a lot more sandbox, it really would be cool.
just take housing for example and your house functions as a deposit for your stuff. You might wanna get a vault and some guards though because other players might wanna sneak in and steal your stuff. Basically, the kind of mergent gameplay EVE offers in this setting would be awesome. Would the game have 12mio subs? No. would it offer a unique game experience? Absolutely.

I would love to see some kind of festival or other seasonal bound events happen.
Sometiems you just want to stop questing and do something goofy instead.
You could have quests which give a nice seasonal reward, special vendors that offer seasonal items like recipes or motifs, challenges, competitions...there is so much to offer.

However, i have to say that i don't agree with OP's post in one aspect: please don't add titles to it.
One thing i like about this game is that titles actually have a meaning.
Giving a title for winning a competition or something easy like that would ruin the "epicness" of titles.

    depends on the titals realy.
would it ruin the epicness of current titals if there was a 'weekend chef' or 'Festival Fisher' tital?
i agree though, that titals with master in them (unless it was something odd like master of cheese lol) would be better avoided.
silly / comical titals are much better for festivals.

i would also sugest things like beer tent brawling (just use the same script as from the quest where you have to convince the nords, so you have to battle drunk)..
perhaps bring back the old pigtale on the barmaid targeting game (realy old, you had a barmaid standing with her braids toed to a target and your viking used to throw an axe at each one...the more they cut off in the time limit, the better their score. higher levels of game play would include being drunker and drunker so your cursor waverd) tho i expect you would have to use a dummy barmaid these days ^^ health and safety and all lol

would also ask that there be basic lvl 1 white grade festival recipes for sale at the event, becasue its no fun to find yourself totaly unable to get ANY recipes, for whatever reason... simple stuff like sweets for each race and so on. they dont have to be good, or have good buffs. just something simple to munch on while you watch the nords brawling

definately like the idea of a festival motif. you coud have more than one type, because there could be more than one type of festival. perhaps one racial festival each year and then one festival for each faction and one or two festival that is celebrated by all. somethig around the end of the year/ winter, one in summer or autum (fall for you usa users) since nearly every society we ever had, had an end of year and harvest time festival.

obviously the dunmer would have a festival celibrating the Three, and the Nords would have something wintery, or just alcoholic (octoberfest anyone? XD)
Argoinans would probably have a celebration of their Hist trees and there would likely be an Orcish celebration of their patron god. Not sure of the redguards, since i havent seen much of them in the games. bosmer would likely have something to do with a hunt and springtime (since they seem rather woodland loving ^^)

would definately give you something to do all year around

Lotro does things like this. They are often quite fun and a good way of bringing players together. It would be nice to see .
