Is logging in and out 500 times to farm motifs an exploit?

So a lot of people in my guilds are farming rare motifs by going into a building with lots of cabinets and such, and logging in and out non-stop all day. I'm wondering if this is considered a legitimate form of farming, or a bannable exploit?

Has there been any -official- word on it?

Really not an exploit. And they cant do it that much as theyd run out of instances to which they could do it with out waiting for them to reset

Its on the list of things they are looking at, but low on the list. Not as much as an issue as the instance spawn bosses who drop purples, or the teleporting gathering bots

Once the more important exploits are fixed, they said they are looking at accounts 'remembering rare drops' so logging in and out will still reset the room, but not help with rare items, but for now, its not 'near the top of the list' to worry about.

There 'fix' is a general 'anti-farming' solution. This will fix most issues like this.

I think its an exploit that needs to be fix but if people want to waste their time doing it thats up to them, the rest of us have got better things to do... The funny thing is the more they farm and try to sell those thing, the more they flood the market, thus making them cheaper, the less its worth to their time.

What people also fall to realise for every exploit players find and use, so do the farmers. Just because you see them on sale with real names doesnt mean they arent gold sellers.

so im still a bit confused. If i do this for 3 or 4 days to make 500k+ gold, i won't get banned? or i will, just not for a while? It seems to be the fastest way to make gold at the moment.

The last lot of bans which where mostly gold sellers and bots, but did include some trade scammers (selling ww/vamp bites but not GIVING them) and farmers.

Note sure if they stayed banned, but one was a person selling lots of motifs. Sell a few, you go under the radar, make 500k....... I think they will notice.

They are so far behind so, and it takes a while to PROVE that someone should be banned, you may get away with it for a while, but I do not recommend it, cause the ones that DID get banned already for this are yelling a lot already in the support forumns

no you wont get banned (if everyone does this they will plug the gap) but why do you need that much money? beyond a horse and bank slots there really isnt much to spend your money on.

I think they nerfed it last patch anyway ...I seem to be finding more prepared food/drink in them since then.

Prices of motifs are less than 1k , to get 500k gold you should be able to lot +15 per hour (in those 8 hours x 4 days, you said).

No need to exaggerate to create a false exploit perception in the ESO community.

Bound to account I could agree with. But it doesn't matter, they'd just find some other thing. Punishing the majority for the misdeeds of a few is never a good thing.

daedric motif = 50k-100k, barbaric/primal = 25k, ancient elf = 35k, then you get things like copper which is selling for 1k each. it adds up

Those motifs still only 'drop' in the V1 to V10 zones, so some are still farming thoses, but like most things, the price will drop soon as the farmers flood the market.

I don't see this as an exploit. Farmers farm Harvesters harvest. I use alts for extra bank space 1 for each crafting skill. I'm not OCD enough to switch back and forth for more than a few minutes much less 8 hours. If they didn't want you to do this either get rid of alts or give more bank space.

Alternatively, you can still log in and out with your main and continue to harvest an area. I found this out after getting kick from a server from too much lag a bunch of times over the weekend.

Besides is it really an exploit if its a known drop location, are you supposed to wait 2 months for ebonthread because you're worried about harvesting to much or getting banned. Nearly everything is instanced so we all get an equal opportunity to hit chests, bosses, and crafting supplies. Of course I have no tolerance for bots , if your going to harvest at least don't be a lazy scumbag and do it yourself.

It's an exploit as it goes against the spirit of the game's intention, getting lucky and finding rare items over the course of exploring, by abusing the game mechanics. You can expect it to get address at some point, after they finish with the current list of problems, I can guarantee it.

Now what happens to those who do this now? I don't know, maybe nothing. But that's a gamble you take.

I can tell this though, those high prices are going to drop. Not only are you going to flood the supply doing this, but what's to stop your limited customer base from doing the same for themselves.

And if anyone thinks the OP is spilling the beans, this isn't the first I've heard of this technique. Word is out.

Wow what a miserable existence these people have. Not only doing an incredibly boring in game activity but also doing an incredibly boring out of game (log in/out) activity. Does anyone play MMO's for fun?

Also, when the majority of the players get up into the veteran ranks, nobody is going to be paying that much for a motif they can find themselves.

I hope it gets addressed soon tbh driosketch. Some may think its not that big a deal but it could be. The over flooding of the market is a direct result of Auction Houses and botting in other mmo's. Flooding is flooding.

Damn it, this why we can't have anything nice Simple but true.

Devs: *** Please make motifs account bound specifically - that way my or anyones main or alt can use them if extras are found, but there is NO incentive for a tiny percentage of players to monopolize an artificial market nor for the bot brigade on this motif issue.

This aside you people are asking why they are trying to make the money? How bout you go into a dungeon and xp/farm your butt off and fill you bags. We come back to sell... O its 2400 to repair... no biggy lets sell.... WAIT my bags were full and i sold everything and i made 2k and my repairs are how much?

Its a losing situation almost every time you either pay more for repairs or profit maybe a couple hundred gold. that is why people are farming the motifs because you cant get ahead by just playing the game. With all the fees be it cod/guild tax/sale tax and repairs they eat the gold up. You that are below 45 or so have no idea what a repair bill is, i am only vet 6 and its eating up almost everything i make.

They are not making much if they have that many alts farming basic motifs, no way anyone could have 6 alts all vet to be farming the money makers, they are getting the basic ones and would have to be getting a ton of them to make any cash since they are going for around 1k.

Apparently, you can also do this for runes. I was in Glenumbra and there was an Essence Rune between 2 trees. I could click on it, but it wouldn't allow me to harvest it. (Maybe because of the poor rune placement?)

Anyway, I tried the old "log out and log in" trick. I still could not harvest the rune. However it had changed to an Aspect Rune now. Logged in an out again to test it and it was now an Essence Rune again.

I still couldn't harvest it, so I reported it as a problem and moved on to harvest other runes.

If your losing money farming, your doing something wrong. Tips:
-Invest in gear that has the sturdy trait.
-Just craft replacement gear rather than repair.
-Become better at avoiding massive damage and dying.
- Grind dungeons nude.
- Wear only the essentials, boots, legs, and chest, or what ever, for your set bonus. That's more than 50% reduction in stuff that will need repairs.
- Wear trash gear when you grind, and replace it with trash gear you loot.
- Sell your broken gear to noobs for outrageous prices.
(Okay maybe don't do the last one.)

If your losing money farming, your doing something wrong. Tips:

Hmm was wondering what lvl you are and its really surprising because i NEVER thought of any of that stuff... Lets see you hit up vet 8 and 10 mobs with trash gear on. My point was its a losing battle with trying to just play the game and make cash. that is why people are chasing the motifs, because they are really the only source of income for now that is marginally profitable to ofset the other gold sinks that were put in the game..
