Ok so yesterday I played (relatively) ok with ESO bar in-game bugs which there did seem to be plenty of.

Today though I keep getting Black Screen PC crashes ONLY when I play ESO. If I do anything on my desk top, no problems. Play other games, no problems. But when playing ESO PC completely crashes to black screen and can only be fixed by a hard PC reboot (which isn't good).

I've reinstalled drivers etc etc but still getting the same issues with it. Seems very odd and very out of the blue !!

Any tips/help would be much appreciated.

PC spec wise I run a GTX580,

i7 Intel core CPU 950 @ 3.07Ghz

10GB RAM

Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

i am also having this same issue, been happening since the last beta, where in the previous 2 i didnt have this problem. No other game or program causes this so its caused by something in ESO.

My PC reboots (or shuts down) spontaneously. It is a relatively new build but only encountered with ESO so far (also have AC Black Flag installed). I'm worried about my power supply (components aren't overheating according to a monitor program) so could be power supply trouble. Sometimes it won't immediately restart. Last night I got 90 minutes worth with no crash though. Hopefully it holds up.

Well I found something that seems to be working for now. Not sure if this is going to be a fix all for this issues but I can play without the black screen now.

Try editing this file C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\UserSettings.txt . Change the line from "SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11"" to "SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9""

    I also changed the following:

Make the following change to the Usersettings.txt file

Go to your "My Documents/The Elder Scrolls Online" folder and open the folder in there called "Live."
Check to see if there is a file called "UserSettings.txt" in there.
Locate the line "SET RequestedNumThreads "X" change the X from whatever number it may be to 0.

I had to make the txt file read only as every time I logged in ESO changed the setting back to D3D11. Here is a link to the thread that helped me and the user Lovreone who made the suggestions that seems to work: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/comment/509812#Comment_509812

I talked in great length to top level folks at ESO about this issue a few days ago and told them about this "fix" that seems to work. I also explained that I have done a ton of research and testing on this and found that many users out on the net having this issue all have one thing in common, NVIDIA cards. Hopefully they will look into this further. I would suggest sending in a ticket to support with a link to this thread as I did to help keep this issue on the burner so they find out why we are being forced to roll back to DX9 instead of using DX11.

I found this to help me out and get my game working..if you see the changes already then Change them Back to default.

If its D3D9 then change to D3D11
if its not x then change it ti x

I as many other NVIDIA users have that issue. My work arounds are in a reply a few clicks up ^^. DX11 and full screen is the problem. I have to run DX9 and windowed full screen. There is some conflict with NVIDIA cards that has been around since Beta they can't seem to fix. :(

"Try editing this file C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\UserSettings.txt . Change the line from "SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11"" to "SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9""

Locate the line "SET RequestedNumThreads "X" change the X from whatever number it may be to 0."

Change your screen to be windowed full screen first. If that doesn't fix it then try changing the DX level to 9 instead of DX11.

I was having similar issues, i changed to play with dx9 instead of dx11, for some reason nvidia cards are rough with dx11 on eso. If you don't have the version you need you can easily download it. I recommend trying it then if that doesnt work well, sorry that worked for me and you really can't do a diagnostic on something causing a computer freeze.

Out of curiosity has anyone tried to wait it out to see if the PC freezes or the game freezes and eventually catches up?
