Webget request failed

Hello,

I'm trying to download yesterday's patch.

It's always usually long and annoying, since it's not peer to peer. I don't have great bandwidth, so the download only goes up to 120 KB/s usually.

Only today, every 30 seconds the KB/s drops slowly down to zero and I get a message on the launcher saying Webget request failed, and the download will start again if I Pause and Resume.

What on earth is happening ?

I have read posts from last year of people to whom this was happening all the time, having to Pause/Resume up to 150 times. As I'm writing this message, I've already had to do it 3 times.

I've been a faithful suscriber since Beta, but this could be it for me if there isn't a fix for this !!!
Please help me.

    Hi @Lilarna !

The webget request failure error sometimes occurs when players do not have firewall or administrator permissions set to allow all ESO traffic through.

Troubleshooting for this error is as follows!

Adding an exception to the Windows Firewall

Players can add The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited to the exception of their firewall. These settings can be found by following the steps below:

Open the Start Menu and type in the search box in the upper right Firewall.
Windows 10: type Firewall in the Cortana search box.
    Select the Windows Firewall option.
On the left pane select Allow a program or feature through the Windows Firewall.
Add both the ESO.exe and Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe.
These files can be found in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online directory.
    And in C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher
    Then click OK.
Temporarily disable virus protection and ad blockers

We advise players to temporarily disable their virus protection and ad blockers in their browser.

Most virus protection programs have an option to be temporarily disabled by right-clicking on their icon in the system tray and selecting the "Disable" or "Suspend" option. Make an exception/whitelist inside the anti-virus software to allow either The Elder Scrolls Online folder or the specific files of ESO.exe and the Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe.

Once the game has been updated, please remember to turn them back on.

Run the game as an Administrator

Below are the steps that players need to follow to run the game as administrator:

    Click Start.
Navigate to All Programs, then The Elder Scrolls Online.
Right-click on the launcher and select Run as Administrator.
Ensure that Automatic configuration Script and Proxy Server are disabled

Players can also ensure that Automatic configuration Script and Proxy Server are disabled in their Internet options. These settings can be found by following the steps below:

    Open the Control Panel.
    Select Internet Options.
Click Connections on the top panel.
    Select LAN Settings.
From here ensure that Automatic configuration Script and Proxy Server are disabled (unchecked). Once the settings are applied, please try updating the game again.

Lower the security setting on the router

We recommend that players temporarily lower the security settings on their router. To do this, they will need to access the setup utility for their router. Try opening a web browser and typing the IP address of their router (printed on a label located underneath the router most of the time).

If players cannot find the IP address of their router, they can retrieve it by following the directions below:

    Press Windows key + [R].
Type cmd as a command, and press OK or Enter to access the command line.
Type ipconfig to get the information.
Please note that the computer's IP address is IPv4 and the router IP is under the Default Gateway. There should be a prompt for a username and password to enter the router's setup utility.

Once players are on the router gateway, they should set any options to Low from their Security or Firewall sections. These firewalls are additional security to any firewalls installed on a player's computer.

Note: Players may need to look up the manual of their router or contact their Internet Service Provider (ISP) for help retrieving their default username and password information, or to lower the security on their router.

    Forward Ports

We advise players to forward ports that the game uses. For specific information about how to configure port forwarding on their router, we recommend players to read its documentation.

Below are the three sets players will need to create:

    Set One
    Name: ESO Game
    Start Port: 24100
    End Port: 24131
    Protocol: TCP/UDP or Both
Server IP: (enter the computer's IP address)
    Enable Port Forwarding
    Set Two
    Name: ESO Lobby
    Start Port: 24500
    End Port: 24507
    Protocol: TCP/UDP or Both
Server IP: (enter the computer's IP address)
    Enable Port Forwarding
    Set Three
    Name: ESO Lobby2
    Start Port: 24300
    End Port: 24331
    Protocol: TCP/UDP or Both
Server IP: (enter the computer's IP address)
    Enable Port Forwarding
    Flush DNS

More information about how to flush the DNS on Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows XP can be found here: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6482

Information needed for ESO Customer Service

Players who are still experiencing the issue after trying the above solutions should contact our dedicated Customer Service Team. We would appreciate if they could provide the following information in their query:

Run the Game Consultant and attach it to the ticket.
Confirm all the above steps have been followed.
Include their public IP address. Players can find it by contacting their Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Include the location where they are attempting to connect from (country / location).
Include which megaserver instance they are attempting to connect to (North America or Europe).

    > "Just running it as admin usually solves this problem."

    > "To best access The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, players should configure their routers to open the following outbound ports: TCP / UDP Ports 24100 through 24131 TCP / UDP Ports 24500 through 24507 TCP / UDP Ports 24300 through 24331 Please also note that Ports 80 and 443 should be open to allow general HTTP and HTTPS access."

Thanks a lot for your fast response @ZOS_MollyH, it's probably opening the ports that helped indeed.

    Good evening
