Curious question and I am intrigued to know what people think. Are factions (outside of Cyrodill) still necessary?
Currently in the game:- Guilds without faction barriers (ability to communicate and trade without restrictions)
- Party Finder that searches/selects from all three factions, not just your own.
- Scaled Content. Dungeons and DLC now adapting to the players level.
- 'Any Race, Any Faction' crown store package.
As an end game DC Breton Sorc, if I teleported over to Auridon right now I am met with silence and emptiness, the entire place was designed as vet content for me and so it -isn't- the same instance the AD faction play on, it's made just for Cadwells gold/silver'. It's barren, nobody is there and whilst I am levelling all I can think is
"hurry up and do this Leo, get out of here and go chill in Wayrest with your mates".
What if my character was simply scaled to the enemies from the proper AD shard/instance? I could meet loads of people, play amongst those visiting or starting their adventure from scratch on this side of the map and generally experience a more social experience. It would also have the game feeling full and populated (after level 50).
As for PVP, of course factions matter in this respect, but as in all the other Elder Scrolls games, what if you are a mercenary or just another sword signing up for the side you prefer? Each "faction" could have a recruitment camp where you pick your side and I am sure it would be easy to cheer for the side you like the most.
Edit for spelling
