Yeah it's just been a pain to level. I'm almost at level 2 now and I've been using my Drain Essence like crazy lol, so hoping it starts speeding up!
What level are you?
I think vamp is supposed to be acquired in the upper 30s level range and the XP requirement for the skill line is scaled accordingly.

The "youngest" one was character level 3 when I hunted down the Bloodfiend spawns. I finished the quest at level 3 w/no armor, no flame weapon, just my basic bow from the urn. I know I rock!
Anyway, as everyone has said, it appears as though we weren't supposed to be playing vampire until level 38ish, and so XP is scaled down and takes awhile to get. You do not need a vamp skill slotted. The fastest or rather best way to level the vampire is to do EVERYTHING.
Dolmens, world bosses, quests etc etc.
My 1st Master Vampire was character level 38 by the time I reached vamp lv10.
The 2nd was 34, but I didn't have very many white named quests with this one.
Green titled quests seem to give the "best" vamp xp.
Elder Scrolls games aren't so much about grinding, rather they are intended for exploration and questing. Of course mob grinding is an option, but. This isn't final fantasy, or wow, and mob grinding is a bore.
I'd suggest while you are going from point A to point B while questing to mob grind as it's not as boring and you are on a mission so it keeps it moving.
Good luck and may Lamae's Blessing be ever in your favor.

Nothing you do will help make the Vampire line level up faster. It depends solely on your XP gain. If you gain 2,000 character XP from killing a group of mobs, your Vampire line also gains 2,000 XP. You don't even need to have any Vampire skills on your bar, and having multiples ones won't increase the XP gain.

XP requirements for Vamp levels scale up based on the level\vet rank of your character at the time of the first bite.
At V14, I got bit for the first time and the first Vampire level required ~80k XP. The amount from Level 9 to 10 vampirism at V14 was around 120-130k XP iirc. So in total it was over 1 million xp to level from 1 to 10 when starting at V14

Wow that's ridiculous. I was level 15 I believe when I first turned, now I'm level 18 and just at Vampire level 2.

You can also slot mist if you want it to go even faster.
Make sure you have the bar with the vamp abilities on it active when you turn in quests. Only abilities on the active bar get XP.

Yeah, so basically the lesson here is get Vampire early if you plan to use it.

So are you saying having more abilities activated increases leveling speed?
