Night Howlers were the monsters in a book I read as teenager. I liked the name, changed the "I" to "Y" and made it one word. It's the name of the island on which the 1980's MSX2 Konami game King Kong 2 plays out. I played that a lot when I was a kid. (Yes I'm old) -
