i really liked the way Rift did the Costume Slots... i was able to customize my armor in every Slot with the ability to not Show anything ( say Shoulders) at the spot. -

It's a two-way street of course. Ultimately WE are the paying customers and can tell them to stick their lore-breaking costumes where the sun don't shine.
