If I'm selling anything related to crafting, it's usually materials and master writs and they do sell well. Gold mats aren't worth what they have been in the past, but they move if priced reasonably.
In the past to make some decent gold I would steal and fence. Now I don't really try. I just sell junk to vendors. Never have used a guild trader. Currently I have 1.2 mil.

Daily writs on 11 toons (8 CP toons with crafting at max will net 1 million gold a month and that's just the rewards and doesn't include selling the ornate stuff) is my primary source of gold.
play the game sell when you wanna sell, farm when you wanna farm, do writs ect. I suggest you bank any spare money in your toons inv every time you get over 10k or so keep 2k on hand for repairs and s
