Honest question... how involved were you with the game itself? Or are you basing your statemets on speculation because 'that's how for profit comanies operate'?

It's irrelevent if the game was "booming". Amazon are there to make money. If the game was not making them money reliably and predictably it's going to get shelved.

Knowledge of the game is irrelevent; knowledge of finances and for-profit companies is what you need to understand this.
