Is PS4/PS5 EU server active or should I join NA?

Hi everyone! New player here, I'm currently in Asia, and since there is no way to test ping on console and i'm assuming the ping in EU is less than NA for me due to location but at the same i heard from different posts that the EU server is dead, should I just switch to the NA server then? Thanks!
